Ango Abdullahi The Northern Elders Forum on Saturday said it would hold a two-day Summit beginning from Monday, to discuss security, politics and socio-economic development of the region. Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Chairman, Organising Committee of the summit said at a press briefing in Kaduna that the event would also articulate the region’s stand on calls for the restructuring of the country. Abdullahi said the summit, which would hold at Arewa House, Kaduna, was expected to generate discussions on the general state of the nation. Issues bordering on the security situation with regards to Boko Haram, militancy, banditry, robbery, herdsmen/farmers clash and kidnapping would also be assessed, he added. The “pervasive poverty and economic hardship, and economic policies of the country” would also be discussed. “We shall discuss the issues of corruption created and promoted by the existing political system, loud voices and calls for re-structuring of the country and in some cases demand for cessation of some parts. The summit will discuss the unhealthy relationship between the three arms of government and the likely consequences as well as review amendment of the 1999 Constitution.“ He said the summit would come up with alternative solutions on investments to reduce over dependence on government. Abdullahi said at the end of the event, a blueprint for the development of the region would be articulated. “The multi-dimensional challenges facing the country and indeed the northern Nigeria though non-exhaustive have made this year’s summit even more imperative and compulsive. “Mallam Adamu Fika, Chairman Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) is expected to serve as chairman of the summit. “Others are Professor Attahiru Jega who will serve as Chairman of the Unity, Faith and Development in Nigeria, a Night session, while Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa, (rtd) will serve as Chairman of `Restructuring Nigeria: How should the North Respond session. |

Tanko Yakassai said not long ago that North has tamed Yoruba's ambition to awaken political consciousness in the Middle Belt. Given that, I now wonder why Arewa Elders are running helter skelter convening a special summit to address Yoruba's political pet project, viz, carve Middle Belt out of Northern geo zone. Now, notice how the task of coming up with a response is given to a leader of Middle Beltans to strategize. Hmmmm...... Yakassai should pick a dictionary to re educate himself on the meaning of "tame". Yoruba dey kampe....whether Arewa like it or not we will continue to agitate minds of minorities in North and stirring their conscience for self determination. If Arewa does not like it they can secede and co join with their brothers in Cameroon and Niger. |

MayorofLagos:My friend will you shut up for once and stop dishing out stupid trash everywhere. Funny. You southwesterners can worship tinubu for all the north cares, but he shouldn't forget, he doesn't have any influence in the north. Obasanjo even have more influence than that tinubu as far as any northerner is concern. Now you are foolishly talking about 'taking' NC{middle belt as you guys call it} from the north, but in all honesty, can you or your tinubu define the middlebelt? Do you know who and who made up the north central? Nigeria's biggest Political heavyweights and godfathers like IBB, TY danjuma, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalam etc are from the so-called middlebelt. Now tell me, who is your tinubu when these heavyweights are mentioned? I have come to realized that you southwesterners give too much importance to tinubu. How many votes did the so-called tinubu gave buhari in the last election? It was almost a 50/50 thing between buhari and Jonathan when the results were counted in Lagos. And this lie that have been flying around that tinubu made buhari the president should stop. Buhari became the president because of the votes he got from the north central. They made him president and yet they don't disturb everybody the way you southwesterners are doing. The north is impenetrable. And if your tinubu pushes his luck, he will be cut down to size. I know he is wise and he knows were his political influence stops |

fiizznation:While I understand your concern for the North, your attempts to belittle Tinubu's contributions to APC's victory in the last election reeks of ignorance on your own part...could it be arrogance or a lack of gratitude, maybe? Whichever one, your sentiments aren't well placed. Like you, I am a northerner. So, I'm speaking from an objective point of view. Ignorance because you seem to not understand that politics is a game of number. No number is useless. I do not have the statistics on hand, but had the votes from the SW gone in favor of PDP, they would have carried the day. People gave their heart and soul in an attempt to enthrone one of your own against all odds, using all the machinery at their disposal without holding back, yet, this is how you pay them back? I must admit it's a strange way to say "thank you". Na where man work him go chop. So it should never be said that Tinubu is asking for too much. After all, he gave so much more to ensure victory is achieved. Besides, how hard is it to recognize someone for their magnificence? If anything, this point to greed on the part of the cabal behind this. In case you didn't know, it was almost 50/50 in Lagos State due to the large number of Igbos and other SS people in Lagos. Your comments are careless, and reeks every bit of the elements of the old northern blocs that got us into trouble with reckless statements. |

fiizznation:I think you should be the one to shut up if you don't have any reasonable thing to say. Stupid old Yakassai opened his senile mouth and attacked the entire Yoruba race unprovoked and northerners like you probably laughed and felt good over it. Now, MayorofLagos responded in kind and you are here foaming from all sides of your mouth. I have also noticed the way you go about abusing Tinubu on almost every thread for some time now. See, Tinubu and Buhari formed a partnership to win the election. Without that partnership, Buhari would have lost the election the same way he lost the three previous ones he contested. If they have disagreement, supporters of both of them should encourage them to reconcile and not be spewing the kind of rubbish that people like you are spewing. Jonathan started very well, then people around him started misleading him to fight those who assisted him to power. People like you are now doing the same to Buhari and eventually, you will help bring down his government. I will just implore you to be guarded in your utterances. And again, stop talking trash about an impregnable north. Politically, Nigeria has evolved and is still evolving. No part of the country is impregnable. Jonathan won FCT, Taraba and Nassarawa in the last election. In 2011, he won Fct, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, kwara and Nassarawa states against Buhari. So, where is the impregnable north? Nobody can become the president of Nigeria without a substantial support from both the northern and southern part of Nigeria and that fact was well established in the last election. The above statistics should also tell you fulani jingoist that voters are dynamic and voting pattern changes based on performance and so many factors. Unfortunately for Buhari, he is performing very poorly and in addition, he is fighting a region that gave him massive support in the last election. I won't talk disrespectfully of Buhari or threaten to cut him to size the way you talked about his benefactor, Bola Tinubu. But I will tell you again to be guarded in your comments. No region has a monopoly over the other. |
