How Do I Run A Farm Profitably? by Administrator(op): 10:10pm On Oct 09, 2016
Dear Fellow Nlanders,

A brother has a farm around southwest region of Nigeria but he is not based in Nigeria. There are problems with management of the farm from the leadership of the staff to accountability.

In view of the above I want to take up the management role so that we can put the farm back into profit making

The farm has a poultry, piggery, ducks and lot of moringa.

KINDLY ADVICE ON HOW TO MANAGE THE MANAGER/STAFF SO THAT THEY CAN GIVE THIER BEST AND STOP SHORTCHANGING THE FARM OWNER.

Thank you.

There are simple tips and tricks,
1. First of all, be ready to fire some people (though this should be a last resort,) so start finding replacement
2. Make them understand why things needs to change
3. Put in checks into everything
4. Avoid too many people handing money
5. Let people take responsibility,Eg the guy in Piggery, if anything misses ,I will hold you responsible, the guy in poultry same etc
6. Install CCTV cameras to monitor activities
7. Now this is a crazy , connect with them somehow and be careful how you fire or treat them, if they notice they can't steal, they will start poisoning your animals , also your life might be in danger once they know you are putting a stop to their source if extra income , so avoid going in times that might be too early or too late ,
8. You might have to get a good security
9. Take time to study the loop holes and block it
10. No staff is allowed to sell, buy or handle company money except the appointed person
11. Start thinking like a thief, suspect every move even if it's genuine, ask questions , if they are not well paid, please increase their pay, in fact this should be the first
