Tripleoluwa:And what happens from now 13th October 2016 to February 2016 you mentioned? Leave the waterways filled with waterweed and ensure boats get clogged in it which will destroy their engines and make travelling on our waterways difficult.... This should be an all year round exercise as activities go on on our waterways all year round. We shouldn't wait for the lagoon to get salty before we rid it of weeds. |

Cutting tape to clean waterways again! Nigeria drama no go kill person. Something that suppose to be a routine job regularly carried out by the department of works. It is like having a special ceremony to flag off sweeping of already commissioned house that is being inhabited. Nigerian politicians and mediocrity, only God will save us. |

Tripleoluwa:for where? those types of Hyacinth have high tolerance to salinity. That's the best option. |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by arresa: 9:02pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
Tripleoluwa:Water hyacinth disrupt waterways operations, disrupts waterways commerce, it destroys motorboat engines and paralyzes waterways economic activities and what you are suggesting means the state should look the other way for months while water hyacinth paralyzes the waterways, terminates economic activities and endanger human life on the waterways and even the state losing revenue via taxes on waterways commerce for months. The state ignoring vital waterways for months is criminal, reckless, irresponsible and total abdication of responsibilities.. |

Ije fun awon 'boys' Dividend of democracy for party financiers, installers and polling agents. Harvesting water hyacinth is a yearly must do since its emergence on our waterways in the late 80s. Boys, Chop up! E jeun s'oke ni baaraaba!! Itesiwaju Eko......! |

matrixme:Those Hyacinth seen as a menace is a great resource for biogas production. The cleared Hyacinth are chopped amd fed into biodigesters alongside other degradable wastes and there will be gas for cooking and power street lights at night. |

| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by Tripleoluwa(m): 9:15pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
matrixme:Who tell you? Salinity of the lagoon kills them quickly. We locally call it Lakua. |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by matrixme(m): 9:21pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
Pavore9:I thought the LASG already powers streetlight from waste products. It will be nice to see this demonstrated too. Will lead to a green and energy efficient Lagos. |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by Tripleoluwa(m): 9:24pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
CuteTj:I agree with your points. Even reptiles like snakes comes with it. But b4 now, when it appears around this kind a time every season, salinity of the Lagoon around Feb is what always kills it |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by Pavore9: 9:31pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
matrixme:The LASG can set up biogas powered kilns for fishing communities to smoke their fish, reducing the dependence on firewood. When these communities now relate the Hyacinth as a resource they would on their own go clear and haul them in using their canoes. |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by Tripleoluwa(m): 9:35pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
arresa:If not for water transportation and biogas production as somebody pointed out here, the LASG has never touched it and Lagoon salt has always killed it. Anyway, dem just dey wake up |
| Re: Lagos Government Begins Clean-up Of Waterways (Photos) by arresa: 9:39pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
Tripleoluwa:Yes they used to ignore because there was little or zero economic activities on the waterways, but hundreds of thousands of lagosians commutes to work and load and offload goods and services via the waterways today and the state is making IGR money off the waterways so apart from safety, there is more than enough incentives to make sure the waterways is unobstructed 24/4. |

When these communities now relate the Hyacinth as a resource they would on their own go clear and haul them in using their canoes. I was at the just concluded Nairobi International Trade Fair and was wowed by a firm that has stretched its minds when it comes to biogas production and utilization. |
