Irrespective of whether I m young or old, I would not like to be called 'Mam' nor do i like addressing anone like this. Let me tell you why: 1. Know your self worth: ever since I started working abroad, I realised how much Indians spoil their work reputation. Westerners have more self worth and think of their colleagues as peers. Where as our attitude is quite subservient. If you can't call your boss by his name, more often than not it means you are intimidated by him. 2. Difference between mentor and teacher: only teachers should be called as Sir/Mam as it's their official title. Mentors in life or workplace can be of any age. But you should always treat them as friends. Only then can you truly share your thoughts and learn from each other. Do you ever call your friends as Sir? 3. Respect comes from action not words: your work colleagues may be elder to you. But remember you are there because you have some unique skill/knowledge that others don't. Workplace is a place for peer learning. You give some you take some. Again peers are equals n should not be called sir. 4. Address age gap: u may want to call some1 Sir, because of your huge age difference. let me give you a tip. Instead of thinking of him as a fatherly figure, actually go n spend time with him as friends. Learn how he reached the top and gain from his knowledge. If you address him as Sir, you already have a mental block in your mind that he is an unapproachable figure. 5. Stay away from sycophancy: you are not going to please any1 by calling them sir. 6. Have confidence in your abilities : value your skills and know that your work truly makes a difference to your company. which means you are equal n as important as any other person. Don't devalue yourself by think someone needs to be 'honoured' in the office. Source: https://www.quora.com/Why-do-some-people-not-like-to-be-called-as-sir Neteller here: www..com.ng |
