bayelsaowei:Haven't you ask yourself why you have not left Lagos?.... It's because you can't leave... Lagos deserves special treatment..and if you are clamouring about the oil sector..jeez They keep vandalising the pipe lines creating humongous problems for the country as a whole.... Apart from that...the citizens there are being compensated through the youth empowerment... I remember when I was in Benin... A house beside us is full Of south east and south south girls...they are being payed by the federal government, the house is comfortable and huge and they are even learning handiwork...courtesy to the federal government, but come to Lagos, there is nothing like that...Enough of this partiality...... |

codemaniacs:oga, you don't need experience nor age to know whether Nigeria was created by the people who claim to be Nigerians. If you think otherwise, tell us the conference that took place and the tribes who decided they wanted to be Nigerians. Nigeria was created by the british for their conveniences. Because of their superior power,no one had the choice to oppose them but to tag along. Nigeria can never work with islam and people who abhor education. I repeat,no one would care much about lagos if we split. People would only focus on how to make their individual countries great. |

Oblang:Abuja was not created to be a commercial zone or centre, it was created for Administration. If the FG wanted to commercialize the city, they know how to do it. Abuja is still a very young city, but it already has the second largest metropolitan population in Nigeria and for over 10 years now, Abuja has remained the fastest growing city in Africa. So dont you think it will catch up with Lagos in time to come? |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by ianSweet(f): 2:00pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
SouthWestBlood:I am not an igbo neither am i even from the south, but the truth is that the Nigerian constitution and administration does not recognize tribal boundaries. There is nothing like yoruba land, Hausa land, Fulani land or Ijaw land in the administrative definition of the Federal republic of Nigeria. Ethnic identities and Ethnic loyalities are personally defined based on interests. Neither our states nor our geopolitical zones were carved tribally. The people of Kwara state for instance even though they are predominantly yoruba, they can decide to claim that they want to answer Hausa or Arewa identity and no idiot has any right to stop them, on the other hand Ondo people can decide that they want to form a common identity and alliance with Edo people and reject yoruba identity and nobody can stop them. See Port harcourt, in the past it used to be identified as an igbo city, but the indigenes of the city choose to denounce igbo identity. The Nigerian constitution only recognises the local, state and federal governments, there are no tribal governments or ethnic boundaries recognized, as such there is nothing like Yoruba land recognized. This is why the Federal and state governments are superior to traditional rulers. |

ianSweet:What abt ph? The issue is lagos has always bin a commercial city and no one can claim he built it to be a commercial city not even the govt. I have heard stories of those old grandpas and grandmas travelling to lagos by foot for various commercial activities. As a matter of fact lagos is a state and get state allocations just like every other states so what's stopping other places to develop like lagos if they want to. |

ianSweet:second largest metropolitan population?? How many people exactly are you talking about? Are they more than Kano,Ibadan,Benin,Port Harcourt or Kaduna? |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by SouthWestBlood(m): 3:24pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
ianSweet:Port Harcourt as you can see isn't part of the Eastern states we all know. If the Yorubas in Kogi decide to go with Arewa, I wouldn't be surprised too. I think that's where your argument is valid. |

meccuno:I have landed properties in Ogun. I invest anywhere within the SW. I'm sorry, I'm not in the game of developing someone else's land. For your information, I've lived in Opic before which is of Ogun state. And again, I'm not even from Ogun. Lagos will forever remain a South Western state and always will be covered by Ogun state throughout. |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by ianSweet(f): 4:30pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
omonnakoda:Yes they very much are. Unless you do not include the parts of Abuja that has spilled into Niger and Nasarawa states because Abuja has massively developed into neighbouring Niger and Nasarawa states. The current population estimate for Abuja urban areas within FCT alone is about 4 million people, by the time you add the parts of Niger and Nasarawa, it's now higher. |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by ianSweet(f): 4:41pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
Oblang:Talking about ancient commercial cities, can you compare Lagos to Kano? Kano was even recorded by the whites to be a bustling pre-colonial commercial city. The Europeans met Kano as an international trading destination when they came to Nigeria. Kano was a route for west africans travelling to Mecca for pilgrimages and people from northern parts of Africa, Arabs, Berbers, Sudanese and others came to Kano to trade, this is why Kano's slogan has always remained 'Centre of commerce', but you can see that Kano is still no match for Lagos because Lagos had a greater federal presence. Kano almost has no federal presence at all. It was solely developed by trade and monthly allocation. Where you have Federal presence in the north is Kaduna and what you have in Kaduna is not up to half of Lagos but see how developed Kaduna is, now imagine Kaduna having as much development as Lagos and merging it with Kano, what do u think you will get? |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by ianSweet(f): 4:54pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
SouthWestBlood:Well, somehow yes, but it's not really about the geo-political influence. Take Taraba state for instance, Taraba is classified in the North-east but most Taraba people identify with the middlebelt region and identity. If not that the middlebelt regional identity is not strong enough, u will see that many parts of the northwest and north-east feel more attached to the North-central culturally. Even among we the north-centrals, many of us choose to identify with the south than with Arewa or Hausa-fulani tag. Talking about Port harcourt, what about Asaba? Asaba is in Delta state but they identify themselves as Igbos. Infact unlike Port harcourt which was formerly in the eastern region and under Igbo control, Asaba was never under the eastern region under Igbos, but still they identify more with the igbos. Identity/Alliance in Nigeria, even though it was somehow defined by our colonial masters, but the indigenes of a particular place has the right to redefine it. |

omonnakoda:I gave you valid reasons and you are just typing nonsense here. For instance, Kaduna city was designed to be Kaduna north and south LGAs but so much development of Kaduna has spilled into Chikun LGA, are we now going to say Chikun is no longer part of Kaduna urban area? Many people know Warri city but dont know that half of warri urban area is not even in Warri LGAs, it has developed into other LGAs in another senatorial district. Abuja is an artificial location, it was carved out of Niger and Nasarawa states. Most indigenes of FCT can apply for Niger, Nasarawa or even Kaduna state indigeneship and they will get it because these were their former states before FCT was created and the people share a common cultural boundary. But even without adding Abuja urban areas in Niger and Nasarawa, Abuja in FCT will still go for the largest urban area in Nigeria after Lagos. There is still so much Land in FCT for Abuja to develop into e.g Kwali and Abaji LGAs which are still rural and very empty. |

codemaniacs:I laugh at your illogical conclusion, how could you compare the events of the past that you never experienced with this present event. have you tried to Google my moniker which is actually my surname? I'm more yoruba than you are because I'm proud to use it as a moniker I can't be blinded by ethnic whatever. I bet you never know before now that the Aworis are the true lagisians and you can still find them at isheri olofin, Agboyi and Ogudu. |
| Re: You Eat Lagos’ Salt, Yet Speak Ill Of Lagos - Lasisi Olagunju by codemaniacs: 6:55pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
Elebiju:there's no such thing as true lagosians... that you are using a Yoruba moniker does not make you a Yoruba person.. Aworis are Yorubas, same way Ijebus are Yorubas no one is more Yoruba than the other.. You say "you can't be blinded by ethnic whatever" but that's exactly what your post is indicating ![]() |

ianSweet:I am typing nonsense.Kaduna was designed........really? when by whom. You made an assertion that Abuja is the second most populated metropolitan city in Nigeria. OK simple question. What is the the population ? You are telling me Abuja is artificial and its indigenes can apply for citizenship of Cotonou. Abuja was carved out of Nassarawa udonminnit!! All the twaddle about Warri LGA means what? What LGA constitutes Lagos? YOU are the one that used the TERM "metropolitan" now you are talking of Warri LGA .Is there any city in Nigeria that is just one LGA?? See logic What is the relationship between cement and garri? They are both mixed with water abi? |

codemaniacs:Now I'm sure you're still learning but I won't be doing any harm if I school you. Every tribe in yoruba land has their place of settlement. The ijebu are native to ogun state which is why they always claim ikorodu and Epe were extracted from ogun state because they are ijebu, I'm Ilaje and just because we have a street in lagos or some parts of Bariga and Ajah were named after my LG doesn't make me a true lagosian ( by origin) though I'm a lagosian by birth. I know you will argue that all Americans are true Americans so I won't even go there at all. |

ianSweet:U are right but that doesn't make the state any less a Yoruba state. The primary ethnic group is Yoruba. History taught us non-yoruba in came after Afonja allowed them.Do a statistics of d ethnic groups see which has a higher percentage. |

toyinid78:I still remember at Alaba where an Igbo boy beat up a yoloba omonile. The lazy conehead would always charge an old woman more than he should and when the son of the woman heard that he just waited for that same conehead omonile to come and when the useless, jobless yoloba guy showed up, the Igbo boy gave him the beating of his life and the only thing the cowardly yoloba mumu could do was curse, wail, curse and wail like the natural cowards yolobas are. |

Sanni45:What do u mean a yoruba state? Do u know that north-western states like Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa cannot be called hausa states? because there are other tribes there, you can only say the state is predominantly of a particular tribe or a multi-ethnic state. Yorubas may be dominant in Kwara but they are not even up to 2/3 of the state's population, they are just slightly more than half. And pls u will be very wrong to say Bariba, Busa and Nupes are settlers in Kwara state, they dominate the entire parts of Kwara north and parts of Ilorin, their landmass is even larger or equal to the yoruba land areas in the state. The yroubas just have a slightly larger population and greater language influence. The deputy governor of Kwara is always from the other tribes. Mohammed Shaba Lafiagi a nupe man was once governor of Kwara state. Only Nupes and Baribas produce senatorship of Kwara north because there are no yorubas in Kwara north. |
