Goldie And I With Pictures by bimbochoco(op):
This is a short diary of my rott and its “alleged” pack leader "Countsparrow"
I have always been planning to have a dog ever since shadow died in 2009… shadow was a local dog, as petlanders will call it, EKUKE… I opted for shadow out of the pack cause of pity. Shadow had cataract and that hindered its overall wellbeing… Never the less, Shadow had a fun filled life, even though when it ran at times to play, it always hit obstacles head on cause of its bad eyesight, I loved it still and Shadow will forever be missed.
Fast forward to 2016, 7 years after shadow died and at least I had little money to cater for a new dog, I ordered for Goldie from a reputable breeder on this forum (Let’s patronize our own)… I asked for a box head Rott, it remains to be seen how my Goldie turns out at the end of the day..,

On the 28th of August, my pooch arrived from its destination in a basket, in a commercial bus… Before its arrival, I had already planned in advance for its coming, that morning with my Knapsack sprayer. I mixed Jik and Water to spray the whole compound, for good measures… I once had a dog that died of old age, but was disinfecting for Parvovirus and all, from what I read, I heard Parvovirus can stay 7 months in a contaminated place without dying (Wow that’s a hell lot of time for a freaking virus to stay alive without a host) anyways, after spraying, I prepared to go to the market to get food and other basic supply.. I had to cancel all appointment for the day, because I wanted Goldie to have a grand entrance into Sparrow’s abode…

It’s a pity I don’t have picture evidence of all this cause my memory card got faulty at a period, so I had to format without backing up… Fast forward to 3pm, I was already getting impatient when my pooch was still in transit… poor Goldie, it must have been dead thirsty and starving since I was told it won’t be fed in order not to mess up the drivers car… Nmmmm!!! Poor Goldie indeed…
4pm, I received a call from the driver to come and block him at the major bus stop we were to meet up, that he was close… Immediately, I dressed up to go and welcome my new Rotty… Goldie had to meet an assured and confident pack leader… so with my backpack, I set out for “THE JOURNEY” ALEX HUNTER FIFA 17… When I met up with the driver, I was quite surprised at the size and beauty of my 7 weeks old pup… Whathuh When shadow was 7 weeks, it wasn’t this big and it didn’t have paws as large as this, but Goldie was perfect and instantly loveable…

On reaching home, I fed it milk and gave it a toy I bought in advance for it just to keep busy while I prepared its meal… Initially, it started to whine and howl, but as time passed, it started getting used to its new surroundings. I had to do a makeshift house for her to spend the night, because I didn’t want her wandering about at night cause of wild cats and other creatures that might want to take advantage of my poor Goldie… anytime I left it alone, it always whined and cried… I couldn’t stomach the thought of my Goldie sleeping alone all night in the August cold, so I decided to sleep outside for the night with her… On second thought, I decided to bring her in with me to join baba for the girls in my room, cause the weather will be much colder in the morning and me myself can’t stand that much cold…

The first night was something else, Goldie wouldn’t allow me sleep, if it fell asleep, I try to sleep too, but in some hours’ time maybe 1 hour or less, it wakes up again and starts nipping on my toes or neck… I would have to wake up, play with it and wait till she sleeps again… We both shared a bed during those first few weeks… It was a bitter sweet experience… Due to my shortened sleep time at nights.. I ended up sleeping during the day… there was a day I slept off in a commercial bus only to find myself at the last bus stop… WHAT!!! The bus had passed my stop, I had to take another to my destination… Perks of sharing a room with a Wilful Rotty…

Re: Goldie And I With Pictures by NevetsIbot(m): 6:30pm On Oct 04, 2016
Reminds me of my alsatian. He never wanted to sleep outside. Always made noises and cried whenever I locked him out.... He loved sharing my bed too... And I have my torn clothes to show for it. Major chewed it while trying to wake me up. He's about 4yrs old now.

Goldie looks healthy... May she pursue potential robbers from you. Amen cheesy.... I love dogs!
Re: Goldie And I With Pictures by bimbochoco(op): 7:00pm On Oct 04, 2016
i wanna thank you all for the love you have shown...

So I had to continue the vaccination from where the breeder stopped… It is better to be safe than sorry. I went out in search for a Vet doctor, and fortunately for me, a cool headed Vet was recommended to me where I got Goldie’s essentials… I had my reservations when it comes to taking Goldie to a vet doctor. She was just 7 weeks old, and susceptible to any kind of infection and invasion by ticks and fleas… Luckily for me, the Vet stays very close to my house… Alas!!! Home service for Princess Goldie… Just shortly after Goldie’s first vaccination. Few days after the vaccination, the Sallah festival/holiday came, lots of food and bones in the house… I knew I couldn’t feed her bones and some other stuff, I felt sorry for Goldie… Shadow my former dog didn’t have restrictions when it comes to what to eat and what not to eat, I was not informed then, so Shadow enjoyed the good things of life… But as for goldie, Mba!!! No bones that can splinter, Even when I eventually get her a big one, I had it in mind to change take it from her after some few days of munching… these dogs have very strong jaws and with time, she could start to break the bone…

Fast forward to the Sallah holiday, we had children around, and I felt it was a good way for Goldie to socialize with little children and people in general, for now… she can’t leave my house cause she has not finished receiving her vaccines and going for a walk is out of it… I noticed after a day, the children wanted to play with Goldie, but they kept running when it came around… Whyhuh Goldie kept nipping at their legs, and they couldn’t stand the pain coming from the pin like teeth… By now, I had used all the command available to make her stop, she just wouldn’t listen…No,Stop, No bite. Goldie just wouldn’t listen… She was living in a world of her own… Books tell u not to hit your dog, but Goldie just listen… Why are Rottweilers so stubborn, or is it just my poochhuh when she starts biting and nipping, she feels like a 7 year old boy who has the whole day to spend playing arcade games… I had to device a way to curb this, and I had to do it fast…

I started reading more Rottweiler articles and watching Videos just to be a better owner… in one of the articles I read, the writer said you should give a loud yee when the puppy bites and you ignore her for some seconds… Negodu!!! How I go dey shout yee because dog dey bite me, mba!!! I can’t, Moreover, Goldie won’t stop nipping even when you stop playing… She only stops for a second, tilts her head sideways, looks at you, and decide in her mind… The bite never pain you reach… Then she continues with your leg, shorts, anything her mouth can reach…. At this time, I was already contemplating the saying “Spare the rod, and spoil the dog”
Re: Goldie And I With Pictures by bimbochoco(op): 7:33pm On Oct 04, 2016
Back to my Sallah story, I had to put Goldie in its makeshift enclosure, it didn’t enjoy staying in the cage and it kept crying every time she was alone, She was 9 weeks old as at the time of the Sallah break , so she was starting to push the kegs I used for her enclosure down and escape…. So I added water to the kegs to make it heavier. Trust Goldie, she had other plans in mind…

Around 4pm in the evening, I wanted to make Goldie enjoy the holiday too, so I brought the leg of the ram to Goldie, well cooked and fried, I gave it to her knowing fully well she can’t eat/ swallow the bone cause of its size, and I wanted her to be busy… After giving her the bone I went inside to join my family…

20 minutes later, I came around to see what progress my Goldie had made, on reaching her enclosure, I saw a happy dog, with a fat belly wagging its tail joyfully… whathuh Where is the bone, I searched her enclosure and asked around if anyone removed the bone, no one did… Goldie had swallowed the bone, what I was trying to avoid… S**t!!! Recession dey, where I wan see money do operation for dog, I went mad, but at the same time, I was hoping she didn’t swallow it… the only way to find out was to wait till the next day and see if she will poop…

Next day, I noticed she was finding it hard to poop, that was when I knew wahala don dey, I kept checking up on her and where she poops to see if she had, but she couldn’t… I decided to wait the day out to see if there would be an improvement (miracle), At 3pm, still couldn’t find her poop in the normal spot “Not like she has a normal spot, but the area she loves visiting more” , I was starting to give up hope and possibly thinking of calling her Vet…

At 6pm, I went for the last check, Eureka!!! Eureka!!! Eureka!!! I shouted… I found it, the almighty poop, even though it wasn’t the normal Goldie special, It was watery but I still felt some relief seeing her poop… It felt like somebody gifting you N30,000 in this Buhari administration…. Half bread is better than Chin Chin

At about 10 weeks, Goldie was starting to become a nuisance in my house, once you allow her enter the living room, she first goes on the throw pillow removal spree, she brings down all the throw pillows on the seats, I don’t know what attracts her, if it’s the colours or just the soft feel… After that, she goes to my Dad’s flower vase, and starts pulling apart the leaves of the poor flower, before you could even say a word to stop her, she has already bitten a huge chunk of flower in her mouth… when you know try to correct her for the behaviour, she then starts the hide and seek game… runs to the back of the TV stand, when you try to block her, she goes the opposite way… when you retract, she waits for you to come near, then she goes to the back of the TV again, using her legs to pull cables and all, all this while, you see a mischievous look on her face Normally it’s not like I want to indulge her, I am only concerned about her safety, but Goldie’s got some other ideas… There was a day ,my Dad noticed and he said, something about his nephew and niece's coming over for the Sallah break destroying his flower, i just kept mute... cause deep inside, i knew the culprit and i was never gonna snitch on my hommie "GOLDIE" Now the flower is a shadow of itself... There was only one solution... Goldie has to move

Goldie destroying the flower

14 weeks on, and I noticed something different about my Goldie... She started losing interest in food, she takes a whole day to finish her breakfast... I thought to myself, what could be happening, i bought her multivitamin to help increase her appetite, but still i saw little improvement... she wasn't losing weight per se, but she wasn't her round robust (Not fat) self either... Then on Tuesday 25th of October, I woke up to see Goldie had not touched her dinner, what could be happening? i went out to see her, and there she was coming towards me, Not her normal happy self... Normally, Goldie is always up to one mischief or the other when she sees her human friends It is either she is biting your feet for you to release your slippers so she can start a chasing game with her, or she wants to stamp her paws on your cloth, either way... Goldie wasn't one to back away from an opportunity to play...

Diversion, Dogs her very smart animals... I wonder how they reason... Goldie knows i never allow her pick up dirt from the floor, but when she sees me coming out of the door, the first thing she does is look for something she can lift of the ground. Normally, i start the chase, try to retrieve what she has in her mouth, but recently, i started to ignore... but now, she has stepped up her game... If she picks a stone, or a water bottle cover, and you ignore her like you didnt see her, she brings it to your front... If you continue to ignore, she goes for something more valuable, if you continue to ignore, she goes for another more valuable than the last she picked, until she gets to your shoe... And sorry, i don't joke with my shoes, and then the chasing starts " she gets what she wants"

On the 24th of October which was on monday, she still ran away with one of my expensive shoes and we both had fun, me chasing and she running deeper into the woods at the back of my house, so why is she not her normal self this morning (25th of October) I tried to monitor her, then some few minutes later, she passed out a watery stool, I was concerned, but i didn't read much to it cause dogs have diarrhea once in a while maybe due to change of diet or something she has eaten... I had work to do, so I Immediately stepped out to try to get all done and come back to see if she was feeling better... On returning home, there was no dog to welcome me, I was concerned... once someone touches my gate, Goldie will always show up, so where could she behuh Just before I started the search, I saw her coming out from the side of the house, Goldie never goes there to rest, and she wasn't her normal energetic self too, she was weak... Immediately, I knew something was seriously wrong... I called her vet, and explained things to him, he told me to get her glucose and force feed her with a syringe from time to time, that by evening, I should give him an update that he was going to come over the next day.

That evening, I kept her in my room, and I tried to feed her fish and egg, she wouldn't eat, I feed her with my hands, after a little while, once I put a little in her mouth, she takes it away, climbs on my bed, dg my bed, drop it and use her nose to cover it... so I stopped feeding before I end up with rats and a smelly room... Around 2am in the morning, Goldie vomited... That was when the real PROBLEM started.

Take ur dog to the animal hospital at agege immediately. The dog is showing symptoms of parvo virus. They usually die in 4 days so do well to take it there immediately. There r chances it will survive. IV lost two dogs this year to parvo virus.

Season of parvo virus. I would advise you ignore that vet of yours first. Secondly carry out all this and see your dog better

1) lock her up in a room and stop all her movement
2) stop all form of feeding. Give her only glucose with a syringe helpinh to introduce it to her mouth
3) go get amoxil 500mg and give it to her every 6hrs. Also buy white flagyl and also get jik or hypo to wash all her surrounding where she has been moving about before restricting her movement. Sprinkle jik on any place where she pups. As this is a virus for now
4) If you have any other dogs below 1yr pls restrict their movement as well. This is a deadly virus
5) also go to a pharmacy to get diastop. And follow instructions on how to use

P.s parvo virus is a deadly disease which kills in no time and spreads within a second. Carry out all this and see your dog survive. Make sure the amoxil is used every 6hrs. From my own personal study and from experience Rottwielers are more prone to this virus and hardly do they survive it. Seems their genese cannot withstand the danger from the virus.

Vaccination not a sure way. Its just a preventive measure which is not even 90% guaranteed

Thank you all for your concern and support... This has been a trying period in my life as a dog owner... During the day, she was so weak, but after giving Glucose she became better, but I didn't want to leave her all by herself for fear of the unknown so i decided she was going to sleep with the big boss... grin

That night, She was her normal self biting hands, legs and all... I force fed her fish and egg which she took reluctantly, and gave her a mixture of glucose, milk and her regular multivitamin. i was happy she took little, I thought she was getting better considering the fact she did not take anything throughout the day... By 12am, I could see she was uncomfortable, I became worried, that was when she passed another watery stool, an hour later she vomited... Goldie was not getting better... throughout the night she was vomiting, I could only watch with sad eyes as my Goldie was passing through so much pain and discomfort...

The next morning I took Goldie outside the house, the first thing she did was to start backing at a relative washing the car, it was funny.. you this dog that gave me sleepless night, and you could barely stand up for yourself, na bark remain for your matter... At that time, I called the Vet again and told him, the whole situation of things. He told me he was going to come around later by 10am... Waiting from 7am to 10am felt like eternity

Pictures below are a healthy Goldie, Goldie under lock and key while i relax with Fifa 17 career mode

Did i mention that flower is now in a very bad state... Will upload pictures later

I forgot to add, her Shots are up to date, I really love this dog, wouldn't want to do anything to hurt her... Like i said in my earlier post, i had to revaccinate to be extremely sure after the breeder told me she had been given the first shot but didn't see no sticker proof in her pet book...

Goldie loosing weight like seriously...

Re: Goldie And I With Pictures by bimbochoco(op): 6:43am On Oct 30, 2016
The Vet doctor came around as promised and did the necessary checkup on her, checked her temperature and all... He told me it was either one of two things, either my dog had swallowed something, or Parvo... I anted to think it was the former, cause Goldie was a freelancer, a free thinker grin, I gave her all the freedom she could get in the house, she roamed, ate anything she liked... The Vet wanted to believe it wasn't Parvo too, since all shots were administered by him but he was wise and experienced enough never to rule it out... He said he was going to administer IV fluid to her...

Goldie, what a stubborn dog... She wouldn't lie still to collect her medication, she was just struggling on the table, so the Doc. resulted to passing some IV through the back and she took a lot of injection... While the doctor was there, the dog vomited again, so he too knew what he had in his hands, a lethargic dog that was fast loosing weight, and a very concerned owner that was ready to call him 50 times a day if my Goldie wasn't getting better...

I was given strict instruction not to feed her food and water..

On the third day, which was on thursday Goldie was so weak, when I come around, she wouldn't wag her tail, lift her head up, infact her eyes where starting to enter her eyes socket... I needed a miracle for my Goldie. At this point, we knew it was no ordinary infection.. It was Parvo... The doctor came around, due to Goldie's weak state, she could collect the IV fluid, when she was collecting the antibiotics she passed out another foul smelling poop, this time i think i saw a little bit of blood in it... I could see Goldie suffering, she was in pain. I asked the Vet "Will my Goldie make it" He said, we can only try our best and hope she survives... I didn't want it to get to the stage of her stooling blood, but mehn!!! This stuff is real, my liver cut...

The doctor said we shouldn't give her water, but immediately he left, I confined Goldie in an area my believe was that she was to weak to leave the place, 10 minutes later, my Dad told me Goldie had disappeared, Goldie!!! Goldie!!! I shouted, I went to her spot at the back of the house, where she relaxes under a small tree... Then I saw her, but she didn't answer me, she kept going further till she found a bow of water, no Goldie don't do that, sharp sharp, she had started to drink, I got there as fast as I could then I carried her... No more roaming about... I Chained her this time around and dropped her back in her confined area.

Seems you want your dog dead. I gave you an advise you ignored it. Your vet is just playing by the makaba music. Am sorry at this point that your dog has started excreting blood . Her channces are slim. Follow my instructions I gave you up there. Rottwielers have got weak genes that can hardly stand the harsh attack from parvo virus. I lost 2 Rottwielers cos of this .

Your doctor is really an experienced fellow Bro! I mean, he's treating an infected dog without wearing any not to talk of DOUBLE Gloves! Now, I know how your dog got infected despite taking the complete vaccination! My advice to you; change your Vet ASAP.
By the way, congrats on Goldie's recovery; you are one of the few fortunate ones
