I think FG should give state pardon to the container owners and have them pay their initial bills to clear off the containers. After all, we have pardoned terrorists in this country.

Nigeria Customs Service is damn fucking rotten. A sincere turn around in this body requires an upright officer with working knowledge of the system. Ali might have come with an "impeccable character" but that is not enough, those crooks are taking advantage of his shallow knowledge.

This revelation is just a drop of water in the mighty of ocean.

And for the senate just discovering this; it means you have gone to bed all the while, to hell with you all. Ten years is not ten months!!!

@AutoJoshNG, thanks for sharing.
u have stated what is in my mind....to add to it..

we have d most useless and senseless set of legislators in d world....can u imagine en years.!! meaning d ones before them were just sitting and collecting money...I keep saying these bunch of thieves will pay thru their generations what they have done to Nigeria and Nigerians....it is goimg to be incurable pestilence

You are right my brother,i live directly across the Ikorodu terminal in question and i can confirm the level of rot going on in that place on daily basis despite low activity as it seems but i can attest to the fact that a lot needed to be done. The custom officer in that place are just feeding fat on the Nigerian state plus their monthly salary.

I am yet to understand how Customs is culpable if an importer decides to abandon his cargo in the ports till it becomes overtime cargo.
Every importer worth his salt knows that there are laws and regulations guiding importation of goods into Nigeria. If you allow your cargo to stay beyond 28 days in the port complex without clearance, the goods automatically become overtime cargo and will be transfered to Ikorodu to prevent over crowding of port space in Apapa,Tin Can and other main Lagos ports.
Secondly before you auction goods, there must be condemnation by a high court.
The senator probably knows all this but as a typical politician is playing to the gallery.

Those NCS boys, know how to refabricate the news and we would still believe, Funny to say. But on the second thought, maybe the containers are court case issues, you know. And that meant the items could not be disposed. But 10 yrs is so much for an item to be locked up in the wharf. Nawaoo..don't even understand self..this is end time..

These are probably containers of mostly Igbo men who were frustrated out of claiming their containers in one way or the other, in a way to frustrate them out of business. The Nigerian polity is in shambles.

Do you actually believe people who worked for their money will buy goods, ship it and then leave it in the hands of the NCS to rot away.

Our people are business men not criminals and when you criminalize a legitimate venture only criminals thrive

Lots of those containers are proceeds of money laundering, with no proper documentation.
Others contain out right prohibited or contraband items. Some have incurred port demurrage that is more than the value of the goods.
That is the main reason why the containers are abandoned.
I repeat customs is not culpable in this case,it is totally the fault of the importers. And I not a fan of the Customs.
