Can you comment without using hard words?

BTW, I served and worked in awka so I know what I'm saying.

I have been to umumbo, umunya, awba-ofemili, amansea, mgbakwu, both nnewi LGAs, nando, achalla...

If you think I'm ignorant about anambra, you're very wrong.

I love Anambra state....
You don't know about Anambra especially about the fast developing cities of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi, all three are developing and swallowing other towns and villages around them. Imagine someone moving daily from Abagana, Abatete, Umunya, etc ( these areas are not part of Onitsha metro yet o) living in their ancestral home to trade in Onitsha daily. Same for the Awka and Nnewi areas too.

I'm done with the thread since you all think:

You're always right, you can never be wrong, and nobody should share objective or contrary views.

So I will leave you all to enjoy your thread.

Once again, I love anambra.

OP you are right about the point that the Government in anambra (including the other SE states) are stretched too thin with their meager resources.

That's why private sector is always 3 times ahead of Government in terms of development.

Government finds it very hard to keep up with the pace of development which is sad.

The solution

1) Institute property tax fund for the construction and maintenance of Inner neighborhood roads especially for new estates.

2) Urban planning has to make sure that enough space is given for road, walkway and drainage when people are trying to purchase land.

3) Government needs to partner with private sector in the form of PPP to build state and local road. Put toll after with reasonable and affordable pricing.

@, seems those buildings around Nkwelle are given special building codes like GRA and GRA phase 2(Akpaka forest GRA) because they don't have that typical Onitsha architecture.

NDI-IGBO seriously need to come together and launch a development fund. It will be geared toward strategic infrastructure development. It can be issued as a BOND or a private equity where interested sons and daughters can purchase share and reap the reward. This can be done if we can summon the will to do it.

When it comes to individual level, Ndigbo are doing great in their contribution towards development but the problem always comes down to Leadership. The leaders that we have today are a product of their environment which is Nigeria. Willie obiano is doing really great using the Nigerian standards of leadership but on actual world standards, he is mediocre at best.

What I observed for sometime touring the state, Anambra state have three major cities Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka and upcoming cities Ekwulobia, Oko, Okija, Iheala, Ogidi etc. Onitsha metropolitan comprises of Onitsha north and south, Obosi, Oba, Nkpor, Ogbaru, Okpoko, Nkwelle and Nsugbe, developments in Onitsha has spilled over to these towns, as a visitor you will think these sub towns are Onitsha but they are not, it's just developmental spillover, same with Nnewi, Awka and their neighboring towns.
Anambra state control highest numbers of markets and ingenious industries in Nigeria, FG monthly allocation to Anambra is very low and both previous and current government find it difficult to tax Anambarias to avoid disorder prejudicial to the public or castigation from her people these are major challenges state government is facing .
Anambra state it's one of the fastest developing state in Nigeria both private properties and industries, the way Igbos are erecting buildings in developing areas are scary, when you go to Onitsha, Nnewi Awka and subs same stories, I guess the state government is been over stretched by providing basic amenities from little allocation and IGR, for Anambra state government to meet up with individual developments in the state we need to invest in PPP projects , increase our oil production output, develop and utilize our gas reserve, also enlighten our people on need to be paying tax, continue to invest in agriculture, these are key areas in my opinion that will fetch Anambra state government more money to meet up with her responsibility.

PERSONAL OPINION

Pictures of Nkwelle as case study, this town is fast developing and urgently need motor-able roads and other basic things

And who's fault is it? the community or the government?

As you can see the Community is building up civilization with little to no government support and they are doing it based on what the LAWS of Nigeria limits them to do. They don't have the ability to provide power for themselves except if they use generator. IT is not their fault that they live with a backward Nigerian government.

Anambra has built a reputation of not borrowing, this is not entirely good. There is no where in the world where govt provide necessary growth infrastructure without borrowing (except Arabian golf countries). Anambra need to embark on capital intensive project that will not only stimulate growth but bring returns on investments.

A project like an international cargo airport will be a game changer for the state. A project like this will generate funds and bring businesses to the state. A railway line from Onne seaport would also change a lot of things. Its obvious the FG don't care, so its time for the state to fend for it self.

Obiano is obviously working hard trying to turn agriculture into a profitable venture and I commend him for that but make no mistake Anambrarians are not farmers, trading/manufacturing is our comparative advantage and we must exploit that fully.

Ambode was recently abroad canvassing for loan to build another seaport in badagry. Anambra need to key into such projects.

God bless the Light of the Nation

You made really good points. Not all borrowing is bad especially if the money is invested in the right areas such as Bankable infrastructures. If Anambra government is scared about borrowing from Nigerian or International Banks, they can start their own state Bank called Anambra development bank. It will be funded by both state and private sector. State government needs to be more creative in their approach. No excuses in the 21st century.

Any government overstretched by these ordinary village houses or any kind of houses is worthless and should pack up shop.

The OP obviously just want to see the houses in his village.

Very senseless and meaningless thread I must say.
