Adagba01:
The boko haram war is proving stronger than the ECOMOG War fought by the Nigerian troops in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The army authority should deploy full strength on these terrorists to end this war quicker. "Waiting" for whatever reason is becoming too expensive for the troops. The lost of a young promising officer like Col. Ali and others is hard to take. If the army fail to end this war soon, who knows the next high profile target of boko haram?
We no longer have battle hardened men anymore...

The ecomog days... Those days bring bak awesome memories of the Nigerian military..

Those tyms the rebels would always pray to meet any other countries military than meet the Nigerian military...

I saw one or two of their videos.. Mehn our Mehn were brave...

Make man dey exchange gunfire with rebel for open like say dem keep plenty lives for house...

And believe u me, those rebels were far worse than bokoharam..

Chai.. The era of babangida and abacha... If at all they didn't do anything... They made our military the best in Africa..

I am beginning 2 suspect our neighbours #NigerChad&Co. If not, where are these weapons constantly coming from; if actually they are with us in this war & doing their part, how do BH get their never-ending military supplies? No! I dey suspect some rats somewhere... though I no fit place my fingers on any. #LetsBeginToInterrogateOurAllies!

Brig.Gen. Victor Ezugwu, is another brave and gallant soldier, who has been making gains against Bokoharam through his gallantry and commanding prowess.

He knows how best to command and lead his troops(men) against the bastards called Bokoharam fighters.

Sir, your junior salute you!!! I pray for God's guidance upon you.

May the ill-fate that befell your colleague Lt. Col. Abu Ali never be your portion in Jesus Name. Amen.

Nigeria failed to learn from it's setbacks in Liberia and sierra leone damn near 20+ years ago.

Insurgency tactics, and counterinsurgency strategies are not new. They have been perfected thru trial and error over the decades.

For conventional armies, they employ pincers maneauvers, to fix and then destroy opposing conventional forces.

The French in Algeria, the US in Vietnam and the Soviets in Afghanistan all demonstrated the use of helicopter mobile units to overcome inhospitable terrain, and blockade the escape roots of a highly mobile insurgent group before you attack them.

Some call it vertical envelopment, some call it Hammer and Anvil tactics. Point is don't continuously let the insurgents escape with their weapons, just to regroup and attack you at the time of their own choosing.

Nigeria made this mistake 20 yrs ago in ecomog, and we are repeating it today. We must invest in a fairly large number of helicopters to employ this strategy.

40 transport Mi-17 transport helicopters and 30 Mi-35M attack helicopters combined with these tactics will finish BHTs within a few months.

Nigeria already has the trained soldiers and special forces, but even they can't overcome the vast terrain that is the northeast. They already know of these tactics, but the government should stop thinking it can win this war on a shoe string budget.

In the past administration, these equipment were not delivered as a result of sadistic, treasonous corruption within and without our armed forces.
Now that our CIC is fighting corruption, we must do the needful when it comes to military acquisition and expenditure. For every naira you deprive our fighting forces, Boko Haram and other insurgencies will exact a million times that from the Nigerian society.

Where have you been Sir? Good to hear from you again. Pls could you recommend another blog for me to keep up with affairs in the front lines? Sirius Black and Beegeagle killed it for me.

Yeah bro, Victor Ezugwu should have been promoted to the rank of Major General by now. Is it because he's Igbo. Cos he's been in the news for a long time now with regards to his outstanding courage and zest in the various battle fields in the war against Boko Haram. So I ask again, what is holding back Army HQ from doing the needful? Or is it a crime too for an Igbo man to be patriotic to his fatherland? Na wa o 4 Naija ooh!

I have always maintained with the little I have seen of Boko Haram assault and withdrawal techniques that the answers to this would be the formation of what I call the " flying curtain" regiment or the air borne calvary which would be an Army Aviation unit with about 24 assault helicopter and 30 little boy scout choppers and a single AWAC which we already have ..Boko Haram loves to to use drug induced courage and sheer number along with careless fire to scare the shit out of our sitting ducks units so with a flying curtain unit once the AWAC or little bird scouts sight a BH toyota column a 2 pairs of assault choppers are sent in to cover the boko haram column front and rear in an assault curtain where every single Toyota truck is disabled and most of it occupant neutralised.. this technique will assure that Boko Haram does not have the privilege of moving around the open fields of the north east it does and thereby also cutting off the logistics and supply chains

Hi IdomaLikita,

I appreciate your comments. Beegeagle's blog was great while it lasted. My only regret was that years of analysis on the blog is buried forever in the archives of the blog.
And only the moderator has easy access to them. One's analysis may be spot on, and proven by events, but you cannot easily retrieve them to demonstrate your gravitas.

Anyway, peccavi, a fellow blogger has a very good blog. Frequent guest Colonel Eeben Barlow has one under his new outfit STTEP, the south African blog/review Defenseweb is probably the best on African issues.

And you also have Bidexiii's thread, the heir to Sirius Black here on NairaLand.
