One barrel per day refinery capacity at the total project cost of N20m?

So much for cost benefit analysis.

If it's for academic purpose, then it's good. At least, our engineers will have some good practical knowledge on refining oil.

Nigeria government won't see dis, dey need to invest in dis but na only oyinbo engineer dem go dey look for.
Nigerians we gat talent n God bless us gan
bulakos25:
The Department of Chemical Engineering of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has established a refinery with capacity to process one barrel of crude oil per day.
The team leader of the project, Professor Ibrahim Ali Muhammad Dabo told our correspondent who visited the refinery site that at present the refinery would be used mainly for the training of students, although the department had the manpower to build a refinery that would be bigger than that of Kaduna if it had government support.
“The initial idea was to construct a 1,000 barrel-capacity refinery, but lack of funding limited us to this one, where we would now be refining one barrel per day,” Dabo said, adding that more than 80 per cent of the materials used for the construction of the refinery were sourced locally.
“Only the controls were sourced from Hong Kong. No expatriate was hired from abroad. All those that were engaged in this project are Nigerians. Therefore, this mini refinery is a product of Nigerian brains. If government can come in, we have the ability to do wonderful things, not only refinery.
This is our training and it is what our department is meant for,” he said.
He explained that beside the land and fencing that ABU provided, the project cost only about N20 million.
Professor Dabo further stated that the idea of the mini refinery was conceived about 15 years back, but work commenced fully in the year 2011.

I think u didn't follow his drift. He meant that there are local refineries in the crreks and villages of SS, but the FG has designated them illegal refinery and is destroying them. Hope they will leave this one in Zaria, cos there has been calls from people for FG to allow those small scale refinery to thrive since our big refineries are moribund.

Oga you are the illiterate person here. The guy is very correct, there are a lot of local refineries in the SS but unfortunately , the govt termed them illegal and out to destroy them.
How won't you make this kind of assertion when u have zero knowledge of what you are talking about. You think boiling crude in drums targeting only PMS is refining? Those hys only do that rubbish because they don't buy the crude but steal it, hence they can mess around with it and still make some money. Expand your knowledge, you won't, only to come an form online militants who doesn't even know jack about what they are talking about. And they call others illetrates. Smh for this youths

you need education. This is more modular than those kitchens you have down south where they heat the crude to a certain degree.

U really think boiling crude oil in drums is refining?? I laugh u... That's only profitable because they don't buy crude they steal... This is good
What else is refining if not seperation by boiling point

Let's call a spade a spade

Probably some blending will take place and cracking and hydrotreatment

desert rats want FG to locate Niger Delta oil well to them... someone should tell them numerous illegal refinery that refines oil in commercial quantities scattered around Niger Delta and the brain behind it need to be harness and put into good use... Northern desert is oil barren so any refinery build in that terrain will be as useless as that textile mill in Kaduna

Nigerian government, what are you waiting for??

Instead of funding one of your projects that we won't see, give this university a grant to produce a large scale refinery

Dangote does not have to have the monopoly on it when there are many talented minds across the country that need it more
where will the pipe run from? Why not give the people close by the licence to do that

The government of the day should speedily enact laws that enable private firms to set up mini-refineries and reduce the monopoly in that sector. Buhari promised transparency and total turn around of our refineries to meet the demands of the people, but he is being lackadaisical in his approach to it. If the Dangote refinery comes up it will be the only privately owned refinery in the country, think of what such monopoly can create. Of course it will ease pressure off the foreign reserve you will say but will pile it on the poor masses just like in the cement sector. A lot of southerners are capable of setting up modular refineries with less logistics and distribution cost due to their proximity to the source, but the govt will always frustrate such efforts and even criminalize the crude approach to it, instead of giving them support technically and otherwise. Look at the whole cost of setting up a refinery in faraway Kaduna the logistics and distribution risks and costs. We can make things simple for ourselves in this country, why should we always seek to be politically correct. Damn!!!!

Seriously cracking is far more than boiling... Separating each mixture perfectly requires a lot more and it is not a really profitable business and the gain comes from selling the wastes which can't be gotten from just boiling

If u want to build a small refineries the procedures are there.. Buhari came in and even offered to allow them used the supply channel of the government refineries for free.. . What else do u want him to do? ?

The destroy them because one they steal crude and two it is not safe.. . U most know someone who got burns from kerosene of recent thats why

I bet my degree if they buy crude even if its for $20 dollars per barrel and use that process they won't make any profit
