This is not about the police, this is about us, we Nigerians, what is wrong with us? why are so ill, evil and twisted, someone gets in an argument with someone else, the next thing to comes to their mind is to break a bottle, someone is called for stealing loads of people immediately rush to beat and burn the person, it happens everyday in Nigeria, every fvcking day, in Lag it's a normal thing, just like you see young guys slapping their girlfriends on the street for maybe wronging him like i saw last night and it's ok, no one interferes, we are so backward and barbaric, so barbaric and dumb for use of a better word, stop with the police blaming, they have their faults, we all know how annoying and useless they can be but the problem is us, Nigerians.

The issue on debate is not about the people her because everyone has stood up up to condemn this barbaric act.

However, the police is hugely responsible for the decay in our system.

When crimes go unabated and the police seats on the side line, they encourage citizens to rise to their own defense because the police has failed them.

When criminals are arrested and handed over to the police, what happens, they collect bribe and let them back into the society to terrorise the society again, what do u expect of them, take the laws into their hands.

When crime is going on, they lack the brevity to rise up (except where it involves the rich). They come back hours after to arrest and torture innocent citizens, what do u expect, negative reactions from the citizenry.

The society has lost faith in the system, lost faith in security.

Blame the people, but not so much, lets focus on the system.

Especially our Useless Nigeria Police Force.

Until its addressed, we cant control this kind of acts.

Thrash!

My father was kidnapped in 2013 and kept for a week until the Ransome was paid. He was also tortured and without food. About a year after his release, he was informed by the police that the kidnappers had been apprehended. Yet, even my father did not support their killing.

This is very true whether you believe it or not. There is absolutely no justification for jungle justice especially when it involves an underage.
balderdash...absolute balderdash

That your father chose not to take his pound of flesh doesn't mean the next man doesn't have the right to demand revenge

Some people have LOST their mums embarassed to the wickedness of thieves and you expect them not to lynch that godforsaken thief when caught?? I can't wait to catch the thief that killed my friend, underage or overage

Why blaming the police? Are we saying there are no sane humans living around that area? Why didn't any of them make an attempt to stop the beating of the boy or even call the police? The police are not magicians and cannot be everywhere.

All o the people present when this was happening are bunch of animals especially the bas.tard that recorded everything. Not even one sane human amongst them? Una dey blame police like say na them kill the boy. Blame the all the animals living in that community.

Be honest with an answer to this question?

When you catch a thief and lynch the person, will you have the conviction that it was that same thief that killed your friend

Will the killing fill the gap and absence of your friend?

Will it erase the thought that he was brutally killed?

After 2 years, when all the anger is gone, will still find the action very satisfying?

Kind and Godly Nigerians.

7 year old. You people have murdered sleep. Rancor will never depart from your lives. All of you will die miserable deaths. There will be no peace for you even in the afterlife.

The person that he stole the garri from, now that he's dead, your garri has come back hasn't it? That little quantity he stole was going to stop you from becoming rich. Well now he's dead your wealth is on the way right?.

The people watching and making a movie out of it. You're just as culpable, I'd rather die than stand by and what a child a go through this. How desensitized have you all become?

You go to church every Sunday and mosques every Friday but your hearts are full of wickedness and cruelty. You sit on your holy moral high horses and pass judgment on others for their 'sins'.
You're disgusting.

How will we progress as a country? Tell me how. I know that there are bad people all over the world so it's not strange to see a quirky character kill someone else, abuse a child or do some other horrible thing to his fellow human being.

But we are among the few nations where everyday citizens who see themselves as normal people will gather in the streets in road daylight, kill another citizen in the name of justice and then proceed with our daily activities like nothing just happened. It's a curse if you people don't know. You're cursed

The blood of this boy will never depart from your lives.
what's the difference between you that's cursing and those people that lynched the boy. Back to the matter, am very sure you've not experience a situation where these thieves take your properties from you especially when it's your life investment and they still kill your siblings, that's why you are cursing. I condemned this act but I won't curse them cos you never know what they went through in that area

My dear, if this is true, if that 7 year old boy was really beaten and killed because he stole garri, then those people will never know peace, at all. If I am to commit murder, it will be on people involved in jungle justice. If I come across any, and I am capable, I will kill everyone of them. I do not care if the victim stole a plane or even killed someone. That is why we have prisons!!!!!!!!!!! I hate hate hate hate this cry cry cry

That boy/man is not 7 years old neither did he steal garri, I'd wager he's anything from 12 upwards. In cases like this where there is video evidence of a crime committed, it is always important to listen to the voices in the background or you listen to the audio if you don't have the mind to watch the video. You threatening to kill those criminals in the video puts you in the same category as them.
Finally, almost everyone here seems to be taking sides with a view attempting to focus on the root cause of the mob action. To solve a problem, you have to know the root cause (I'd say causes in this instance) and then eliminate it. We will continue to have jungle justice in this country as long as the people do not have faith in the security forces especially the police which is actually the root cause of jungle justice today. Do you know that some set of people have been robbing passersby in the area (based on what I could gather from the video) where this person was lynched? I'm fairly certain that the police in their usual incompetent way will tell you that they don't know about it. Do you also know that it is common for the people to assume that the police know and work in connivance with such people which is actually true in many cases (An example is Oshodi under the bridge)? As an individual, can you take any matter to the police in Nigeria today with the aim that you will get justice? What about criminals caught in the past with evidence who were released by the police rather than convicted? In some cases some of these criminals go back to take revenge on their captors. How do you begin to trust the competence of a police force that did not know the location of a crime of this magnitude and in broad daylight too knowing fully well that the police will most likely be notified before the remains of the victim is evacuated? Going by all I have said, it will not take long for a set of mentally unbalanced individuals to convince a mob (worse even if some of them were victims of a crime in the past like in this video) to kill a suspect whether he is guilty or not because to them THERE IS NO AUTHORITY, NO LAW, NO JUSTICE.

Transferred aggression....

After viewing this video, i observe that :
1. The alleged ''7- year old thief'' is obviously not seven.
2. He is an adult an not a 7-year old.
3. He couldn't have been maimed in this manner because he 'stole garri'..... abegiiiii garri bawo?

Inasmuch as i am against jungle justice, i think people that are advocates of it have justification for their actions. Some people had horrible experiences in the hands of Armed robbers. Many have sustained permanent injuries, some have had their sisters, daughters and wives raped in their presence. Some have had their relatives killed and a lot more gory experiences. I know a retired professor whose heard was almost spilled opened with an hammer just because he was trying to protect his family from these guys.

At the moment, Nigerians are facing torrid times. The last thing a thief will want is to get caught at this hard times. In lagos today,if you mistakenly step on someone's toe in the BRT bus, the backlash can be devastating.

Good questions:

1) Yes I will, he might have even killed more people

2) It won't fill the gap and absence of my friend but it will always please me that the fool that is responsible for my friend not on earth I am responsible for him not on earth

3) Hell yes it will and it will help save other people that may be killed by that particular thief in the future (very important)

4) After two years i'll walk to my friend's grave and tell him the Foool that this to you will never be alive to do this to another person because he has been lynched

If you all keep reasoning this way then I'm sorry for justice, people will stealing and killing because they know when caught they cant be thoroughly because 'jungle justice is barbaric'. Even the law sometimes sentence people to death to satisfy the victims and deter others

I have had encounter with them when I was much younger and since then I really don't care about them. These people have caused serious havoc in families. STEALING is not good. If you must steal, don't steal from people who are managing. Once caught, na death straight. They won't hear.

AND MORE REVELATION FROM JOINT ACTION AID....
Not much different from my own findings. . . Read on.
'The true account of the young man lynched and summarily burnt to death at Orile Iganmu last Saturday speaks of the uncertainty and brevity of human life in Nigeria. It was Saturday, the 11th day of November 2016. The venue of this macabre killing orgy was at Augustine Onwualu Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.
A woman, (name withheld) was walking along the ever busy road of Augustine Onwualu street, Orile Iganmu. She had an Infinix Hotnote 2 handset with which she was making telephone calls in high pitched voice, frantically gesticulating in the process. Close by, on the same street were a gang of 4 notorious thieves, well known in the area for their dare devilry and viciousness. They were there, waiting, prowling and surveying the entire scenery for a vulnerable victim to rob and dispossessed of their valuables as they often do in the past. And successfully too.
The woman approached. Still talking on the phone and gesticulating with her free arm. She was immediately spotted by the very perceptive eyes of this criminal gang. A brief conference amongst them, she was adjudged a soft target. There was no need for further plans or careful surveillance. After all they had done this successfully in the past. More so, their sheer ferocity makes them a sort of feared mobster in the local vicinity. But it turned out to be a miscalculation. And costly one at that!
They approached and circled the woman who was oblivious of her surrounding and the imminent attack on her person. The robbery attack was swift and very decisive. She was held from behind by two members of the gang. One of them deftly pruned her hand bag off her shoulder and the same time attempted to retrieved the telephone with which she was making calls from her other arm. The last of the gang stood guard, providing cover for the others.
They had during their planning stage misjudged the desperation of a Nigerian woman about to be dispossessed. The victim reacted swiftly. She let the hand free and held on tenaciously to her phone. A struggle ensued. The victim plaintively cried out for help. A motley crowd gathered. The other members of the gang, appropriately appraising the situation fled the scene. The fourth member was not so lucky. He continued to engage in an internecine struggle with victim for the phone. In desperation, he brought out a dagger, and cold bloodedly stabbed the woman repeatedly in the chest, stomach and shoulder. There is a proverb, when a strong animal flirts too much with the trap, he makes his meat available for children to share with teeth.
The gathered crowd became enraged and promptly apprehended the abandoned thief. He was beaten to stupor, Tied up and set ablaze while the maddening crowd continued to bay for his blood.
Joint Action Aid was alerted on Monday when video clips of the dastardly murder went viral on social media. We reported the yet another resort to "jungle justice" to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos state. The video clips were carefully analyzed and some arrest made. The six people arrested through our efforts denied criminal culpability and brought fast talking lawyers.
More frustrating, the charred remains of the alleged thief had been removed. The area council and Orile Iganmu police claimed ignorance of the whereabouts of the corpse. Thus we have a dead zone situation. No dead body, no witnesses and then, most understandably, an unwilling complainant still battling for survival from the grievous multiple stabbing at the hospital.
We returned back to the office, again defeated. Frustrated. And defeated. The rule of law is vanquished again. The rule of the jungle continues to win triumphantly.

Another one was heard saying 'Awon na kii pity eyan' meaning: They also don't pity others...

The multitude of people in that video shows how many hearts have to change for this nation to have a brain.. Unfortunate..hmmm.. A 7 yr old for that matter..

In as much as I condemn the killing several question needs answers...
1. The mob action took place on a major road can u imagine ow many police officer (forming staff)in buses
Plying that route that did not interfere in the lynching or break up d mob
2. Why is it now d police are js forming awareness ? So if it wasn't on social media nothing
Would hv been done.d perpetrators will walk or probably walk free in a matter of weeks forgotten
3. The so called DPOs in charge of d suspected areas are found wanting in there duty and what will happen to them?
As usual no discplinary action....just go and keep sending ur normal roger to headqtrs.

Now to d so called victim or suspect I wonder why people keep saying he is 7yrs old does that loom like a boy?
Thats a full blown grown up lazy man who was caught stealing even if its garri which I doubt.though thats still no
Justification for jungle justice .in as much as I am not holding brief for d perpetrators its just a reflection of lack of confidence
In d police force to do justice to crkminals thats why people result to jungle justices.d pllice should be alive to there duties
And police d metropolice like they should not checking peoples phone and looking for yahooboys up and down.
I am still waiting for naija police to do a covert operation to nab d games robbing early risers travelling btw ojota and jibowu
Of there ATMs and valuables
