Nothing stops any woman from aspiring or seek to be elected to any post. Until women learn leadership and responsibility; push away the gender consciousness, then they are ready for leadership. I think leadership shouldn't be handed over to any be gender but capable hands. We have sizable number of women in Nigeria, how many voted for that 'KOWA' Party candidate. If all promoting 'Gender Agenda' can focus on sending their subjects for 'policies and strategic studies' it will go a long way instead of gender tozzle. |

Pidgin2:You're misinforming the whole people. Our democracy is not even up to 2 decades and you're using 'decades' loosely. That to me is unacceptable. Women can be anything if they so wished but don't you think is fraudulent to just 'throw' governance at any one just because of their gender? Let them go to the trench, play the game as men because when they become governors they will get the entitlement of that office. And to be fair, most women in position of boss in this country are still suffering from low-self esteem as they are to concerned about being powerful than building relationships. If there's one reason why we must not allow just any woman in position as sensitive as that its because a woman understands how to manipulate power than a man unless she's a godfearing woman. |

Olabestonic001:Points noted, we are gradually heading towards 20 years of democracy, hopefully we will get there and beyond I have repeatedly emphasized on voting in a qualified candidate. I think it's wrong voting for someone based solely on gender but it is equally wrong when it seems like a person's gender automatically disqualifies her. This happens here, many people are not prepared to accept a female running the affairs of their state. It is now a role reserved for males only, for now |

Klinee:This, I must say is laudable, not because she was voted in based on her gender but because she even had the courage and self esteem to contest. However, in my opinion, gender should not be the only factor used in declaring a person worthy of any position of leadership |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 6:02am On Nov 20, 2016 |
omowolewa:Thanks for your opinion, all points have been noted. @bolded, this is a valid point, some of us have started learning this. I also believe there are some older ones who also know this, they are ready but negative societal and cultural factors are holding them back KOWA party has no structure many people weren't even aware of them neither did they watch the debate on TV. I was oppotuned to watch it and I know that Madam has what it takes to be a good leader, but the party she belongs to did not create enough awareness about her candidacy |

Pidgin2:Right now we are talking about economic recession.. we are talking about Atiku Abubakar campaigning for 2019 presidency.. we are talking about political apathy of most citizen .. and yet you talk about women when you haven't strived to solve these recent deep occurring problems.. So seriously what is the essence of this post?? |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Klinee: 10:03am On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:Politics have no level playing ground for any gender, it is a game of who have the mind and what it takes do it. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 10:23am On Nov 20, 2016 |
Women dont need to be governors to make impact on the society, they just need to come together and speak with one voice. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Tedassie(m): 12:53pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:But we had Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele as Deputy Governor of Lagos state na in the early 2000s,remember ![]() If she had a strong backing from women that time, she would have easily become governor. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 3:32pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Tedassie:Men and women vote for male candidates why does she have to depend on women to vote for her? |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 3:32pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Klinee:Interesting |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Tedassie(m): 3:37pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:Women have a greater sphere of influence, don't you get ![]() When you lot don't even know how much influence you wield, how then does the world respond to your agitation. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 3:39pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Newbeginnings:Let's not forget the things that matter because of the economic problems we are facing. Atiku Abubakar and Co are recycled politicians, they will keep coming back because we are not ready to try new hands. If Dora Akunyili was not given a chance we would not have known her capabilities I talk about women being elected because if we begin to use our available human resources (including women) this country will overcome many of our economic challenges. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 3:42pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Tedassie:Right now, women are using their influence in roles like first lady of state governors, wives of local government chairman, first lady of the country etc is this the sphere of influence you are talking about? |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Tedassie(m): 4:05pm On Nov 20, 2016*. Modified: 4:22pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:What are we even talking about here? I've often heard this axiom or whatever,"If you educate a man...you educate an individual..if you educate a WOMAN...you educate a NATION"...This alone should give an insight into what power and influence women have in their hands. The power to educate,to reach, enlighten,to build, reform a nation etc etc,why don't they utilize this God-given potential to reap the dividends of democracy? PS: Leadership is not gender-dependent. Mind you. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 5:19pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Tedassie:They are already doing this. We just need to be able to condition our minds into accepting that a woman can and should be allowed to govern a state. Right now, we still have a populace that may not accept this simply based on gender. Hence they may not vote for her based on this. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Tedassie(m): 6:07pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:Yes,agreed...the citizenry is bound by constitutional creed, which makes provision for the rights of eligible adults to excercise his/her fundamental rights to vote and be voted for regardless of political affiliation, religion,GENDER,social status etc etc. In other words, whatever modalities put forward to amend certain errors or limitations of the polity must be implemented within the ambits of the LAW. (i.e issues such as this that need to be redressed must be done under due process...and what is due process? The appropriate way things should be done under a recognized and well-defined constitution of a state(nation, country). Mere "conditioning of our minds" may be as good as pouring water into a basket!...isn't it high time, women banded together to take action(not violence in this case)...i mean rational action, that will bring a long-lasting effect. (For instance, small organized groups agitating for a new state, resource control etc taking up their case to the International Court of Arbitration to seek redress to their marginalization). Now what stops our women groups from making such move,if they indeed desire a reversal of the status quo. *dunno,if i'm understood* |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 6:20pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Tedassie:You are understood but it doesn't work this way. I don't support banding together because it will make marginal impact not the type that is needed for a change in orientation. If women band together, they will only get sidelined once again. Things like women wing within political parties will be the result What we need is to make models of women involved in politics in European countries . They do not band together but are fully involved as individuals within their political parties. Thus the men don't view them based on gender but as fellow comrades, this way they achieve more. In my first post i mentioned societal and cultural hindrances working against achieving the goal of electing women into governorship positions. A change of orientation is needed because the first stage of achieving this goal is to make it a possibility in the minds of average citizens, right now it seems like majority of our people are not ready to entertain the idea |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Tedassie(m): 7:16pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Pidgin2:Ok,i see your perspective now,if only individuals in corridors of power(like the Senate or House of Assembly) shared your view for a change. I personally feel,it will come to realization...might even be sooner than you know. why do you feel so?@bolded. Someone out there might be warming up to this 'opportunity',you never can tell. Nice thread. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 7:42pm On Nov 20, 2016 |
Tedassie:@ bolded, Thanks I really hope so. As per your question, I feel so because there were so many protests against mama Taraba and some other ministerial nominees(especially the females). I know Taraba state is majority Christian and so am I, but I doubt if it was only about this. When Senate president contested against his sister in Kwara state he won despite the fact that she had the backing of her late father |

Pidgin2:My dear, that's politics for you...be not deceived: sometimes there's neither black nor white;it's just grey areas to work through in this game of politics!...that's the insane world we live in! It's just terrible when the media&judiciary are so compromised to the extent that they become machineries through which nepotism, bigotry, 'mud slinging' politics is perpetrated. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Newbeginnings(m): 7:42pm On Nov 21, 2016 |
Pidgin2:What do you know about economics and challenges.. do you think it is all about electricity.. providing jobs.. water and roads .. These things are the reasons why average Nigerians like yourself are swayed into voting for these people because they promise us these simple things and we fall.. Stop voting politicians based on their simple good road building, streetlights schools .. Vote then based on economic intelligence.. Smart thinking.. Big states in America such as New York, California and Florida have never had female governors yet these states are among the most beautiful and greatest in America.. So start doing the right thing instead of the gender thing Stay Healthy Stay Wise |

| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 9:35pm On Nov 23, 2016 |
Newbeginnings:What questions did you ask? All you said was big States like Florida, New York and California never had female governors. Frankly, your pride is confusing you |

Pidgin2:Frankly behave like an adult who reasons with people of conflicting ideas rather than quarrel with them... I said you should answer my questions and / or reply my points.. so if you didn't see any questions as a normal adult you go next to reply the points.. Stay Healthy Stay Wise |

Newbeginnings:I'm not quarreling read your initial post and observe how you try to talk down at me, this is a perfect case of a pot calling a kettle black, take care and stay wise |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Newbeginnings(m): 2:42pm On Nov 24, 2016 |
The initial post is a challenge ...calling you to prove you intelligence and get another believer in your females should be governor propaganda... which will make it a more realistic event in 2019 or 2023 elections.. But a child is still a child... looking, but not seeing.. still growing but believing she has arrived at a point although lacking research, experiments and end points... Please reply my points.. Pidgin2 Thank you |

Newbeginnings:I'm tired of you two are get a room already if you two like eachother. We already established equality of opportunity exist but equality of outcome can never be guaranteed. I a man already said if a female politicians has best policies I'll vote for a females. Others feel same across country hence why we have female elected reps all over the place. |

Pidgin2:Most you force upon the states in Nigeria with female governors? Only in the skewed imagination of a numbskull being a woman is a free passage. |
| Re: 36 States, And No Female Governors by Nobody: 3:30pm On Nov 24, 2016 |
Newbeginnings:FYI i see through your insults. There is no propaganda in this call and I made my point clear in all my previous posts. I'm not asking for a figure head to be elected into office because she is female, I am saying let's begin to entertain this idea that governorship is not a role for males only. If FG takes the first step by scrapping offices of the first lady in states, this will help by creating a level playing field and make the governorship roles less gender biased. |
