forgiveness:I admire how you fight for Nigerian passionately but it end up blinding you about us. Kenya's first real building bubble was experienced in the 1970's. Iconic Buildings like KICC and Hilton Hotel were already up by early 70's. By 90's almost all the buillds below were up kissing the sky.. So what skyscrapers did Ibadan have by then!!! From 2002 Nairobi building bubble has been outside cbd mainly upperhill, westlands,Hurlingum,Mombasa road among others.

Jay254:No, I am not, I am obviously stating the facts. I know Kenya is good but I also know that the development of skyscraper in sub Sahara Africa was initiated in Ibadan and with many first initiated in Ibadan. Then Lagos as the capital was doing catch up with Ibadan. As you rightly said, skyscrapers in 2000. I mean building with 100 meters height while Ibadan already had the first in sub Sahara Africa. |

Oxtonguy:Poverty has risen in Nigeria, with almost 100 million people living on less than a $1 (£0.63) a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The National Bureau of Statistics said 60.9% of Nigerians in 2010 were living in "absolute poverty" - this figure had risen from 54.7% in 2004. The bureau predicted this rising trend was likely to continue. Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer but the sector has been tainted by accusations of corruption . According to the report, absolute poverty is measured by the number of people who can afford only the bare essentials of shelter, food and clothing. https://www.ruralpovertyportal.org/web/rural-poverty-portal/country/home/.../nigeria Some 70 per cent of Nigerians live on less than US$1.25 a day. Poverty is especially severe in rural areas, where up to 80 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line, and social services and infrastructure are limited. The country's poor rural women and men depend on agriculture for food and income. https://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/nigeria_statistics.html Despite Nigeria's plentiful agricultural resources and oil wealth, poverty is widespread in the country and has increased since the late 1990s. Some 70 per cent of Nigerians live on less than US$1.25 a day. |

Jay254:The first skyscraper in Ibadan was built in 1965 with the height of 105 meters while the first and second skyscrapers in Nairob were built in 1973 and 1974 with the height of 105 meters and 103 meters respectively. Nairobi waited until 2000 before it add another skyscraper Times Tower, with the height of 140 meters. Nairobi only had two as at 2000 while Ibadan had only one. Just one more than Ibadan. I waa there, right but Nairobi never had a dozen as at 80s and even now. |

forgiveness:Let's not let patriotism cloud our judgment, honestly speaking, there's no way Port Harcourt can be compared to Nairobi development wise. As for Abuja it can though it pales when compared to Nairobi and as I said, it's the only city that won't disappoint you given its population. Now getting to Lagos, it's a city competing with Nairobi instead of Shanghai, Cairo or some other similar sized city. Its skyline, motorways system, retail penetration, corporate presence etc should be several times larger than Nairobi's and not the same size. Then Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano and Lagos are above 2m ppl with Port Harcourt being very close to that figure. Lagos is too big to compare here so for the other 3,do you see anything Durban like or Abidjan like? So I don't think I was wrong saying your 2m - 3m cities are very disappointing. It's good admitting realistic things. For instance, Pretoria is about the same size as Mombasa but Pretoria is a whole lot more developed, or Port Louis in Mauritius is half the size of Nakuru but it looks like the bigger city when compared infrastructure wise. The Port Harcourt - Nairobi match-up is just as contrasting |
