update: my answer is -6

10 - 2 x 8 = - 6 (each book = 2, each newspaper = 1, each portfolio = 10)

note: equation (2) contains 2 newpapers,
equation (3) contains 5 books and 1 newspaper,
equation (4) contains only 4 books and 2 newspapers

No dear, pay attention to the details. You would notice the newspaper is reduced from 2 pieces to 1 in equation 2 and 3 respectively.

Then also take note of the change in colour of the books.
