There is no beautiful slum, slum to me is like feces...

Facts about Kenyan slums
Population of Kenyan slums were exaggerated over 10 times
Place like kibera were estimated to have 2.5ppl while in real sense they hard 171k ppl, Mathare was 500k to 90k.
This was away NGOs milked money from western countries.

Slums in Nairobi occupy 5% of the land...
Oga park well your words don't hold grounds anymore, we don't care!!!

September 2011. not Nigeria as you're implying.

If it was a Nigerian that made this mistake, we no go hear word for here....
Hope you're now an "enlightened kiddo".
In all fairness, you did say some shockingly stupid things.

Calling you stupid was perhaps too polite of him.

The slums in Kenya is a disgrace to Africa.

The worst part is you failing to admit it and give a wrong impression of your country here.. Don't even try to compare the slums in your country to the one in South Africa or Nigeria.
@the emboldened, we're talking about slums in "Kenya not Nairobi "

As makoko, ajegunle is to Nigeria,
So is Kibera to Kenya.....
Slums in Kenya, not Nairobi.Eeerm. Since it was established that the pictures posted of Ibadan having rusty roofs is not a slum, then by definition, there are no slums outside of Nairobi then because what we call a slum in Mombasa looks is what you Nigerians are calling an ordinary estate in Ibadan.

Even if the internet (google) posts some lies, it's not far from the truth.

but i have given proofs to support my motion, NNPC is the major owner of Nigeria Oil, NNPC is a state-owned company they owned more than 55% of shell companies and other oil companies alike , plus, you can never see shell filling stations and depots in Nigeria all what they do is exploration , most of the companies that manages Nigerians oil are Nigerians. believe me bro!
Thus in essence all the Exploration is done by foreign companies.
Thus oil production in Nigeria IS DOMINATED BY FOREIGN COMPANIES!!
We are not talking of the downstream sector as it has to rely on the upstream sector for its products. Even in Kenya, the downstream sector has 90 companies of which 85 are locally owned so no difference there.
In Kenya, the importation of fuel is managed by the Government of Kenya through the Open Tender System thus all our oil is brought in under the GoK. Nigeria on the other hand is at the mercy of the likes of Shell.

So you had to post the Nairobi picture despite your hatred for it to claim that it is a Nigerian one.... And why repost less than ten pictures in different angles 1000 times.
We Kenyans have been posting different parts of Nairobi starting from CBD, Westlands, Suburbs & roads with their names. In photos showcasing other towns outside Nairobi we managed to extort their economic activities, size and population. What Naijans have done is repost different angles of less than 10pictures & claims of GDP that doesn't reflect the reality.

A NIGERIANS OPEN ASSESMENT ON WORKING AND LIVING IN KENYA

Tunde Oyateru
Mar 19, 2014

Nigerians and Kenyans have different sensibilities including very different attitudes to the stresses of life, whilst their politicians are very much the same as they continue to line their own pockets

Kenyans are without this maddening drive and take things at their own pace; it can be very riling for an outsider or a newcomer and it can also very interesting for the social observer. Nigerians are always complaining about the stress of daily Nigerian life and how their fellow citizens aren’t polite or patient; living in Kenya you may wish every once in a while for a little injection of that sense of urgency, whether it is necessary or not.
Perhaps Kenyans have discovered that it is better to live life at a pace that is

Kenya is largely known for its dominance in endurance sports and for its beautiful wildlife and Safaris; you would imagine that because of this- the wildlife- they would be evolutionarily pre- disposed to sprinting, to being fast. But no, the Kenyan way is decidedly laid back, in context it is little wonder that they excel at endurance sports and long-distance running.

AMBITIOUS NIGERIANS JOSTLING FOR POSITION

For a Nigeria it is a shocking change of pace, and for a Nigerian who has spent any amount of time in the South-West City of Lagos, it is near impossible. Kenyans do not possess that automatic disdain and vehemence that comes with living and trying to get ahead in a country with 160 million souls trying to do the exact same thing. That necessary defence mechanism that comes when you live in a country where people are obsessed with coming out ahead of the next person, where people are forever jostling with each other to secure the best position for themselves; some call it ambition.
In Nigeria it is evident in common everyday situations like traffic, the constant blaring of horns, the yelling and the promise of doom and eternal damnation hurled from one car window to the next, the last minute decisions to swerve in front of oncoming traffic, all just to get ahead of the next person regardless of the fact that you will all have to slow down at a traffic light or a speed bump. Naija no dey carry last; this ethos has become ingrained in our collective identity and persona in more ways than we realise.

KENYANS AND “SAWA”

Standing with a group of Kenyans, you don’t feel that immediate sense to impose yourself on the conversation, to elevate your status beyond what it is- when someone mentions a job title, it is done so matter-of-factly, there is no pause to allow the position take its toll, to soak in. When someone mentions that they work for the United Nations for example, the rest of the group won’t casually mention how interesting that is and how they have been trying to get a proposal in, while they all silently calculate the salary. Everyday Kenya conversation is bereft of all that, it is decidedly very simple. Or as they say here in Kenya, it is Sawa, the Swahili word for O.K.

This is their ethos; the Kenyan standard that everything will be O.K., it can be heard in one of their most popular phrases, made so by the Disney film The Lion King- Hakuna Matata, it means no worries. When a Kenyan has money it is spent, he or she will fuel his or her car and drive hence Nairobi’s already horrific traffic is particularly trying during the end of the month. When there is no money, the car is parked and they use public transport; while Nigerians also share this ethos of destiny working its magic and things working out, which is embodied in our phrase E Go Better; a Nigerian person who can afford a car will not park it simply because he or she is out of money, one way or another that car must and will be fuelled.

Our belief in fate and destiny is limited to it working out in our favour permanently, a thing getting better is a permanent fixture, E Go Better tomorrow but maybe not the day after doesn’t really work for us. Ergo, if a car is bought it must and will be fuelled at all cost.

Life however doesn’t always work like that, the forces of fortune and good grace do not always respond to sheer willpower as evinced by all the uncompleted buildings and roads in all major Nigerian cities. Nigerians however do not allow a little thing like fact or simple reason deter them ;the fact that the building in the city was left incomplete will not stop the builder from beginning a new one in the village.

It is what feeds the sense of limitless opportunity in Nigeria, the sense and quite often the reality that the rainbow with the pot of gold isn’t too far away. It is why Nigeria has one of the highest ratios of new charismatic Pentecostal Churches; it is why Nigerian politicians haven’t been sacked, because every Nigerian realises that fortunes can easily be reversed and to slow down or not move faster than the next person is to admit that things may not change.

Realistically not that many fortunes are reversed, in a country with as many people as Nigeria, how many realistically can come out on the very top, but once again a little thing like facts or statistics will not stop Nigerians from pushing.

WHAT DRIVES KENYANS AND NIGERIANS?

Kenyans are without this maddening drive and take things at their own pace; it can be very riling for an outsider or a newcomer and it can also very interesting for the social observer. Nigerians are always complaining about the stress of daily Nigerian life and how their fellow citizens aren’t polite or patient; living in Kenya you may wish every once in a while for a little injection of that sense of urgency, whether it is necessary or not.
Perhaps Kenyans have discovered that it is better to live life at a pace that is suited to you or perhaps they have worked out the mathematics and realised that not all of us will be multimillionaires in our lifetime and have decided to enjoy the time they have, one thing is for certain, you will not find that need for ostentation, recognition or titles as a measure of accomplishment, it is not what drives them.

This is not to say that there are no similarities between us, and that all Kenyans stroll leisurely whistling Hakuna Matata into the sunset; in every society there are those who have been left on the fringes and Kenya is no different. These people understand that hunger, despair, the inability to dream, disease, poverty and death are all the same whether you live in Kenya or in Nigeria.

There are other ways we are similar; Kenya is the most prominent country in East Africa, it has the strongest economy and military in the region and is received as the regional leader, much like Nigeria in West Africa, although traditionally our influence spreads beyond our immediate region. Kenyans can often be heard scoffing or dismissing other countries in East Africa; there is a sub- conscious national agreement that these other countries are not up to par and the region would not be buoyant without Kenya’s participation. This closely mirrors what Nigerians feel about Nigeria’s involvement in the ECOWAS, and for the most part it is true.

Kenya also suffers from the same internecine conflicts and insecurities that have pipped Nigeria’s progress, Kenya’s government and history is interwoven with the majority group in the country; the Kikuyu’s who control government and the economy and who feel strongly that the right to govern belongs to them. They too can be heard deriding other ethnic groups in the country; if you changed around some of the names of tribes, you would find that you were also reciting the history of Nigeria.

YET KENYAN POLITICIANS ARE THE SAME AS NIGERIAN POLITICIANS

In the same vein the Kenya constitution recently adopted a bi-cameral legislature and regional Governors for the first time, and while still relatively new, they have become adept at neglecting popular opinion and sentiment or even following the basics laws of logic while simultaneously lining their pockets, much like their counterparts in West Africa.

There are many towns that you drive through and see the corner shop painted in the red of Close-Up or Airtel, or the white and blue of Omo, many petty traders you will see named Gods Fortune Enterprises or Roberts & Son; drive by the junction and watch how people queue up waiting for the small bus that cannot possibly comfortably carry them all, drive by the market and see people haggle over the prices of staples like onions and tomatoes, as more people haggle over used clothing sprayed on the floor forcing them to bend down and ultimately select.

You could close your eyes and with all the sounds and the hive of people and imagine that you were in any busy town or city in Nigeria.

There are more immediate ways that we are different as well; Abuja, the Capital of Nigeria is a grand structure by most standards, solid road networks, a world class stadium, remarkable architecture and other supporting infrastructure. Nairobi has begun its journey but isn’t quite there yet, it however does compensate by having large swathes of land in the capital for wildlife in their natural habitat, which for any city is a feat to boast.

Having spent some time in Kenya, I find myself sometimes drifting into the patterns and beginning to take life at pace, living a life sans fervent activity and planning and sometimes I even believe I am content, then an opportunity I can exploit comes my way and I quickly realise Naija No Dey Carry Last.

A Short Comparison between Nigerians and Kenyans

Written by Niyi Onifade
Published: 26 May 2012

In my last post, I told you about what I was doing in Mombasa. We’re now back in Nairobi, having successfully ended our Corporate Governance training course in that coastal city yesterday afternoon.
Everyone in the country is now worried about the spate of cyber crimes in Kenya. That’s an arm of the notorious 419 that has become a common phenomenon in Nigeria. But listen to the kind of money they talk about around here to be shocked! They talk about some few thousands or millions of shillings stolen by some bad guys. They seem not to know that our own people have since graduated into stealing billions and trillions of naira.

Oh yes, bad things are happening in Kenya. They have their “Al Shabaab” wahala just the way we also have our Boko Haram stigma in Nigeria. The only difference is that the “Al Shabaab” guys throw grenades at people and run away, while our “Boko Haram” plant heavy bombs and die along with their victims. Can you spot the difference? Yet, the government of Kenya is not leaving any stone unturned to fish out the grenade-happy boys of the country.

In spite of the bad things that are happening in this beautiful East African nation, I am thrilled that the citizens are so proud of their country. In fact, they are celebrating a number of things. For instance, we were told that:

-The Kenya Police authority can now be contacted via Twitter and they will respond swiftly;
-Kenyans now obtain their passports electronically within a period of seven days;
-A number of government offices now open from 7am to 7pm;
-Farmers now obtain information about crops and soil condition in their areas electronically;
And many more…

Almost every Kenyan also has confidence in the country’s legal system. You only need to listen to them discussing labour law, tenancy law and others. They believe that any issue can be satisfactorily resolved at any court of law in their country.

The point is that corrupt practices are actually being reported the more…which is a good thing for THE country.” Just look at that: Sounds like wonderful patriotism.

Too much ego for someone who can't even decode a simple "quote" tagging it CANNIBALISM, when it simply depicts high level of "INEQUALITY" .

Its not a problem or an insult to be ignorant, the major problem is when you fail to accept it and think you're intelligent.
You're swimming in a pool of denseness.

Poverty has risen in Nigeria, with almost 100 million people living on less than a $1 (£0.63) a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown.

Unsurprisingly the numbers are still rising. I thought Nigeria might've finally slipped into degeneracy. In all seriousness, if it gets really bad there. We Kenyans are more than happy to set up a UN-Nigeria food delivery.

I am back after being banned (allegedly by antispam bot). There is no way any of nigeria slum cities (even abuja-created from the scratch) can match kenya cities. Even the new city EKo Altantic - cannot much the beautify of Nairobi or Mombasa. There is a lot more to a city that you'll only see in Nairobi and Southern Africa cities - and of course in developed world. Only in Nairobi and Southern Africa cities do you find slums...coz there is clear distinction, rigorous zonning and plan..in Nigeria - you're talking about mishmash of slum next to posh house - entire city is what you could call a slum city.

Nigeria cities simply lacks oomph!

The least said about their GDP and their wobbly economy the better. Just learnt Angola has overtaken them in oil production. Nigeria is messed up country that is going down fast - usd to naira is now 470 - real inflation is 120% - nigeria gov is busy cooking statistics but reality on the ground is different.

Nairobi clear has it! - You want to live, work and play there.
