Nigeria (and many african) cities can learn alot from Kigali - which was equally like most of Nigeria cities - but kagame is turning it around. Nairobi is lucky to have inherited a world class city from the British - all they had to do is to maintain it - and they've done a good job at that.

The pictures from Nigeria are so few and in so small resolution - these guys are really struggling - coz if you enter google image search - and type LAGOS OR IBANDAN- what you see is slum city.

Nairobi has thousands of pictures taken at all level coz it a truly beautiful city folks actually want to photograph and share them.

Don't ask our Naija friends to zoom down to street level.

What is perceptual and reality rank? This must be only rank out there than ranks Lagos ahead of Nairobi in anything serious.

Just type this in your google - Nairobi City rank - and see what comes up.

Just today TravelBird - ranks Nairobi world 74th Most Inspiring City.

Few days before that -Nairobi City ranked among top 20 successful cities globally -

Nairobi is regularly rank top with Joburg and Capetown in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Now type - Lagos City Nigeria rank

Topmost -The 27 cities with the worst quality of life in the world

Oxtonguy:

Capetown is by far the most beatiful city in Africa and has biggest slum. Lagos is mainly a slum city. There are slum slum(Makoko) and few posh areas. And the rest is mish-mash of slum and posh areas. 90% of Lagos or Ibandan is city where anyone erect anything he wants as long as they own the land - so nice house sit next to rusted iron roof shanty - just like in Adis Ababa.

Nairobi and South Africa cities have slums...not slum cities.Slums in Nairobi occupy ONLY 5% of the land -illegally in valleys, forest, road reserves and dumpsites. The 95% of Nairobi land is a decent beautiful city.

Here is Nairobi Slum - clear demarcation - btw slum and a city. Just like in South Africa.

That is the Eko Atlantic city under construction cheesy

More of it
Don't see how that differs from what I said, it is a render, non existent. Any 1 wanting to see it will have to postpone his trip to Nigeria for about 5-10yrs.

Then the tower you are claiming to see in different angles all over in all Nairobi pics is in only 1 pic in the past 5 pages so where are you seeing it from. Are you in Nairobi? Or is it in your Album?

AfroCircus:
You haven't given evidence to support your statement of Nigerian companies being all over, yet you ask for Kenyan companies'. I'll give an example in each sub-sector anyway

-kenolkobil is the largest downstream oil Company in the region with operations in 11 countries
-BIDCO, with operations in 16 countries is the largest producer, marketer and retailer of consumer goods in Africa
-Safal group is Africa's largest producer of steel roofing with operations in 11 countries.
-Kenya Airways is one of Africa's largest airline company with operations in almost every African capital (44 destinations in Africa, 54 in total)
-KCB and Equity, Kenya's largest banks have operations in 7 & 6 countries in Eastern Africa respectively
-Nakumatt and Uchumi the 2 largest retailers from Kenya have operations in 6 (mostly East African) countries
-EABL has installations in 6 countries in East and Southern Africa but sells it's products (mostly Tusker) as far as US and Australia
-Serena Hotels has luxury resort outlets in Eastern and Southern Africa and also in Central and South East Asia (Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan with another planned for India)
-Britam group, à company offering insurance, asset management, banking and property investment has operations in 7 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa
-Centum investment Co, a holding Co dealing with virtually everything has operations in 10+ Countries all over the continent. It even owned Nigeria's African Capital Alliance but sold it's stake last year.
-Brookside dairies has installations and acquisitions in 8 nations including Nigeria

There are more I don't know but will add when I get to know them. You give Nigerian examples in as many sectors as you can.
EABL vs NBPLc

EABL has installations in 6 countries in East and Southern Africa but sells it's products (mostly Tusker) as far as US and Australia

Nigerian Breweries pls service West Africa.

TKO EABL wins.

Nakumatt vs Silver Birds group

-Nakumatt and Uchumi the 2 largest retailers from Kenya have operations in 6 (mostly East African) countries

Africa. Silverbird also possesses the largest cinema chain in West Africa with several locations in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Uyo and Accra, Ghana and Kenya. grin

TKO Nakumatt wins in

Uchumi (27 stores in Kenya) vs Addide (37 stores in Nigeria)

As you can see Addide is the winner.

5% of Nairobi is a slum. 70% of Lagos is a slum. Big difference.I would classify 95% of Ibandan as slum.

Here are proposed buildings
And as you can see only Kenyan buildings "Site Preparation" as their status. Tho some are still "Proposed" as their status. Didn't see Hazina Tower on the list, it is on hold, about 9floors constructed so faar, will be 163m once completed.

What is mass housing is nigeria -those few units? Nairobi mass housing are many 1,000-5,000 units estates.

Most Nairobian (lower middle class) live in mass housing like this -- highrises btw 4 - 10 flours - few higher than that.Nairobi land is very expensive...perhaps more than even NewYork...an acre in Nairobi can go as high as 5M dollars...so Nairobi housing is full of high rises.

Middle class

low-middle class Nairobi -MAJORITY of Nairobians.

Then slums.
DUMMY, THOSE ARE BARRACKS BY OUR STANDARD. NIGERIANS DON'T LIKE OVER POPULATED ENVIRONMENT. MOST HOUSING PROJECT IN NIGERIA IS DONE BY PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS UNLIKE KENYA WHERE UN AND AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK BUILD YOUR COUNTRY TO REDUCE SLUMS.

A BUSINESSMAN WILL ALWAYS BUILD WHAT CUSTOMERS DESIRE NOT BARRACKS. KENYANS HAVE NO CHOICE CAUSE IT'S A PRIVILEGE.

Nairobi housing - thousands of units of high rises - where most Nairobians live - with monthly rent of 200usd for 2-bedroom apartment.

This mainly Nairobi Eastlands - shady part of Nairobi - but definitely better than Nigeria cities. Nigeria in Kenya mainly find themselves around here.

Remember Nairobi is a well-planned city.1/4 of Nairobi is the animal park +2 forest.1/3 of it is posh areas - leafy suburbs - where rent can set you 3,000-5,000usd per month.1/3 is industrial area.1/3 is occuppied by 3 city centers (central, upper hill, westland) and then 1/3 is where 70% of Nairobi live - these are highrise residential areas. The you've got sums occuppying 5% of Nairob. You cannot erect your blue shocked iron-roof house bungalow in areas designated for 8-10 floor apartments. Those chinese style housing is where most of Nairobians live in...and they are not erected by Gov...but private individuals, banks and type.

Remember Nairobi land is damn expensive...coz park occupy large part of it and forest too...so you'll have to live in apartment...lower-middle class Embakasi one - will cost you 300 usd per month.

There are thousands of high rises apartment (min 4 flours - max 20 floors) in Nairobi - in areas where it allowed - and these are own by individual - Nairobi's real estate is profitable coz rent is paid monthly and is high.

What you cannot see in Nairobi is slum next to apartment next to posh house next to factory next to office block - all in different shapes- and colors- like in Naija city - which is definition of a SLUM.

https://venasnews.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/embakasi.jpg

Nigeria army private earning 150 dollars - might not be able to afford these 1 room bedsitters - which goes for 50-60 dollars - so the Nigeria army private will have to find himself house in slums (cost 10 dollars per month)
