There has been research on how supermarkets benefit local small holder farmers:

Traders indicated that they purchase 100% of the commodities especially the ALVs and green vegetables from small-scale farmers currently. They expected to source larger quantities in future because there has been an increase of branches of supermarkets, for example Uchumi, Tuskys and Nakumatt.

The greatest developed in this regard for me was the reentry of traditional foods into the urban markets.

While it's good for country to have multinational retail establishments supplying a countries consumers, it's devastating to any economy when those consumables are imports. They do not have any benefit to local producers, and they bring unfair competition to the local farmers, factories, etc.

Am not surprised with your view as a Nigerian, since the usual mantra with Naija is solely blaming the white man for all their problems. Case in point is in 1960's when Nigeria got its independence from colonial rule, the white men left infrastructure, rule of law, institutions and working systems. A decade later the Nigeria and most countries in Africa are we knew were in shambles. Neo- colonialism took charge from post-colonialism, the Africans became more resource hungry than the whites while ruining the countries systems, living destroyed infrastructure and throwing the rule of law and order to the dustbins. What the colonialists built in 50yrs was destroyed in 10yrs, successive coups and tribalism are the order of the day while corruption and nepotism have been indoctrinated into the system.
Unless we as Africans stop blaming the Oyinbo man for all our failures either past or presnt we will never move forward but always finger point. Kenya as a society has accepted and embraced diversity in its society, a shift in the general population due to intermarriages beyond tribe and race has reset the Kenyan society to spur economic and social development. This is the reason why you find both white, indian and arab working in the Kenyan civil service, armed forces and private sector.
NIGERIANS PLEASE KNOW THAT OTHER COUNTRIES CAN LIVE TOGETHER AS ONE.

You have also been called out for your lack of knowledge on the subject being discussed, hence your contribution on that particular sub topic is rendered useless. Sorry man, if you ever met me in real life am also a driven individual immensely proud of his personal, family and national achievements, we don't take isht lying down.
That being said, i hope you learn something about how to have a focussed discussion. Also, we have realised both kenyans and nigerians that alot of your folks like walking around the continent with a false sense of pride that is fragile, seeing as it is we're in the information age, and lies are easily detected. The biggest benefactors of the vibrant retail chain sectors in Kenya is the small scale farmer. 90% of consumable goods in Malls & Supermarkets in Kenya are locally produced while 100% of consumable perishable goods are fresh farm produce from local farmers.

I do not care for other nations, what you do in your country has nothing to do with Ngerian exceptionalism. We all have our fish to fry, move on.

Kenya goverment knows the benefits of technologically investing in equipping small scale farmers with modern techniques to boost productivity and alleviate poverty. The Kenyan Agricultural market is one of the most competitive in Africa.

Just give the kenyan nairalanders a chance to showcase their country as a beacon of progress (which it is ), instead of the systemic and systematic degradation of it people (which some unknown powers have decided to do). Let the level headed ones decide for themselves.

Funny is when Nigerians are showcasing advancement it technology our counterparts are busy showing us farms...farm my foot....abeg show us something innovative from your country not all these farm...we are building cars,motorcycles,ship,gunship mounted tanks and this guys are still showing us farms....I reserve my comment though

Well, I am not into this white or black talks but I will like to correct the part you said white let infrastructures, institutions, rule of law and working system in Nigeria before independent. Maybe they did that in South Africa and Kenya but I want to plainly say that they left nothing except railway.


Which infrastructures are you talking about?

How many 8 lanes highways or 2 lanes road did they construct before post independent?

How many bridges did they built across major rivers?

How many universities did British build?

How many intercity highways did the British build?

How many standard and well planned cities did the British left us?

How many airports did the British build?

How many, how many...?

I can go on and on and on.

The answer is the British built NON OF ALL I MENTIONED. Surprised?


What kind of institutions, rule of law and working system did they leave behind?

Institutions built on corruption, rule of law built on corruption and nepotism, and working system built for failure.
All dey did was for themselves.
