Congrats Op! What I like about this thread is that Op just didn't jump up and shout there is a change in the NPF recruitment.... he gave examples why... and others have chimed in to support what he is saying. Patrick O has given a very good reason.... the person/panel in charge is recruiting based on merit only. Was this how it was done before? No... therefore there is a change in the way recruitment is done.... how it is supposed to be done. Change takes place one step at a time.... this is just one.. one positive change. All the negative and pessimistic comments show one thing... the biggest and most difficult change we would need to overcome as a nation is to reset our minds... to think straight... with an open and objective mind. |

Boldstar:I wouldn't entirely say it was done totally based on meritocracy. There was a touch of luck and divine providence. You said your friend [b]is (your friend aint dead yet, why did u use was) intelligent, and you obviously are too, and so were the bulk of the candidates who vied for selection and probably had the requisite credentials and fitness Being presented with such overwhelming numbers of over-qualified candidates to fill limited slots, eliminating all possibilities of "connections", i think the selection board may just have picked at random and God then pleaded your case and you got selected. I think that's just it bro. #NaGodWin |

cloud9usher:Fairness Pls I will urge u to briefly go through Asp specialist list. I find it difficult to comprehend the rationale for chosen Livestock technicians (HND Animal production Tech), Engineers as specialist over Criminilogists, clinical & general psychologist, sociologist & other behavioural sctientists. Where is the fairness![]() |

I will believe things have changed for good if they replicate this gesture on good jobs like the DPR and FCSC that was recently advertised. Until then,I will keep watching |

in this recruitment process... there is not like fairness here...the constable rank is for those that are suffering in the work... while those cadet ASP and inspector were hijack by those who have Godfather...hmm...in Nigeria nothing has change |

PatrickOkunima:thank u... Do u know that of all d requirements u mentioned like physical fitnes test and psychological tests by physical interview.. None was carried out... Aptitude test(eng nd maths) was just written nd they woke up one morning brought out a list nd now telling nigerians it was on merit...merit based on wchich grounds nd on what assesment... Now they ar using nairaland accounts with d help of some mods to tell Nigerians on nairaland front page that they hav picked 500 cadet specialists nd ASPs from english and maths Aptitude test...so the aptitude test told them d best medically fit candidates nd d best psychologically capable to do palice work... Smh.. This is shamefully bad..! The funny part is that all of them that brought the story of how they got d job without knowing anybody always adds how he or she knows someone who knows d I.G, d governor, buhari nd even trump yet d person didnt get selected only them were selected because of how good they are in...in what..? nigerians think...!! |

You are hundred percent right. There is no transparency in Cadet ASP especially. In the north-eastern zones. Most ASP selected are based on senatorial recognition. Which merit as there was no medical screening, race and so on. Northern people prefer police to other forces because it is easy. But, I can boldly say, the recruitment of ASP cadet, especially northern people is a fraud. |

Does it matter? Police is a job where you are treated like shit by your bosses, forced to collect money for them, and you take out your frustration on innocent citizens. ![]() Congrats ehn, but please try not to harras us too much when you get your uniform. |

I've been in the mood of praise ever since the list came out. Seeing my name on top of the list still beats me. I've given up on this long ago. The selection was definitely based on merit as I DO NOT HAVE ANY CONNECTION whatsoever. Kudos to the Police Service Commission for this transparent excercsie. Kudos to the Nigerian Police. I got it on merit and I've vowed to be at my utmost best serving the Nation. To God be the Glory |

saintsylve:I am sure the day that your friend would be weed out he would come around and tell you another story. You and me know that recently over 40 thousand workers were laid off by the federal government after some careful verifications. The same thing is going on in various state, no thanks to the recession in the country. They were tagged ghost workers but the issue is beyond that as it involved age falsification, certificate forgery, employment recatry, etc. These people had enjoyed their illegality for years thinking that they could not be dictated for life, just like your friend do now. Worst for them is that they would have no claim to pensions nor gratuitous sent off. Besides, some of them were even at the pick of their working career when the sudden happened and thus can hardly secure any good job again because of their ages. Of course you cannot image the pains they are going through. The N-power exercise is still on. the short listed candidates are still being subjected to screenings. I think you should advise your friend to regularise his document. The owner's day may not come soon though when it will come it may be too late to cry. No matter what Nigeria is changing. It's what we are all yearning for. The change is certainly slow, but who knows tomorrow! We shall not be cut off-guard! |
