Rivers United Players arrive Madrid for final phase of pre-season preparations A day after winning Super 4 Tournamnet NPFL 2016 (PHOTOS)

The pre-season preparation for the Port-Harcourt based Nigerian club is getting better as the players seems to be in a happy mood after they arrived Madrid in Spain for the final
phase of the preparation before the Nigeria Professional Football League kicks-off. The club won the just concluded NPFL Super 4 2016 Tournament after they defeated Wikki Tourist 1-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

With the way the club is going, I see them as serious title contenders for next season after they finished just as runners-up last season.

The Nigeria Premier League has got along way to go.but i must admit we seem to be making some steady progress. i urge the organizers of the tournament should instruct that every club participating in the premier league have a nominal capital value before they can be admitted into the league

2. each participating must have not less than one corporate sponsor who is well capitalized to finance their expenses

3. they must ensure they have a strong fan base who can pay the gate fee to watch their clubs sate. that will improve club revenue profile

Rivers Utd is a Nigerian club filled with seasoned African players who just won the NPFL Super 4. They do not require acclimatization to the Nigerian weather and going to Spain for a week cannot affect them in any way.

I think the trip is good for moral, bonding, exposure and esteem. That should go a long way to toughen up an already good side.

This country sports is so backwards, we still dey on top pre-season when other leagues have played around 15 games into a new season.

NPFL will never see any development so far it's still in the hands of the government.

I see where you are going with your suggestions but they are not very practical as you cannot legislate on stuff like that. Already, most NPFL clubs already get an average of 5,000 match day attendants and clubs like Pillars, Rangers and Enyimba had upwards of 15,000 to 20,000 in many home games last season. It is the prerogative of the clubs to market their brand and not the regulators to make demands of such.

e.g. is the BPL last season where Leicester with 20k to 30k matchday tickets won the league above clubs like Manchester United with 76,000+ matchday fans.
