Here is a command that most modern believers either do not read or would wish it were not in the Bible. However, the Word stands and we do well to examine ourselves:

1 John 2: 15 - 17

15
Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].

17 And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.

In an era of christian 'liberty', we do well to remember that at the end, the excuse," Our pastor never told us" will not hold!

You left examining yourself, you jumped to condemning others. Do you think on the day of accountability they will be called to answer for your wrong doings?
You left the log in your eye, u want to take off the tiny speck from another's eye. Kontinu

In the light of this quote, can someone define what is meant by Christian Liberty?

that we have the choice, power, ability, to be perpetual victors over sin/the world/Satan/the flesh, or sore losers to the above listed?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
- John 3:16

Elsewhere with Kalatium, it was once said its regrettable that the bible for casual & ill-informed reader(s), at times, if not, most of times, might think the bible is contradictory
Classic example will here, where, on one hand, this thread's title says ''Love not the world''
and on another hand, John 3:16 states ''God so loved the world indeed''

Not when the contexts are considered! John 3:16 speaks of the people, 'whosoever'; 1 John 2 speaks of the 'things' therein

lovely thread
Re: Love Not The World by embodiment: 7:02am On Dec 18, 2016
My emphasis is on the phrase 'Love not the world' We live in the world but we are not of this world. Our lives shouldn't be fashioned after this world cos we are not of this world despite being of this world. The world is governed by the prince of this world(the devil). The world and its system will not give you want you want but vice versa. The bible records in verse 16 of that same chapter that all that is in the world are the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and lastly the pride of life. We need to be wary about our choices. We are aliens in this world and we should live as one cos this is actually not our home. After the fall of man we became free moral agent meaning we have a right to make choices of our own bearing in mind that this choices have consequences. This consequences can be positive or negative.

The very first sentence states it "do not love or cherish the world ..." Why is this so?
Re: Love Not The World by DeSepiero(m): 8:23pm On Dec 28, 2016
God creates the world
I love the world
Therefore I don't love God

Wow! Amazing

the subsequent lines clarify the writer's focal point as being the things not the people
