President Vladimir Putin on Thursday bade farewell to Andrei Karlov at a packed memorial ceremony in Moscow for the diplomat who was assassinated in Turkey by an off-duty policeman shouting 'Allahu Akbar' and 'Don't forget Aleppo'.

Dozens of colleagues and relatives attended the ceremony for Karlov, the ambassador to Turkey whose death was labelled by Moscow as an act ofterror while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the perpetrator was a member of Fethullah Gulen's group behind the aborted July coup.

Putin laid red roses at the foot of Karlov's coffin and spoke with his relatives but left the ceremony without making a statement.

Karlov's body was lying in an open casket in the building's marble-clad lobby flanked by a uniformed honour guard.

President Putin offers his condolences to Marina Davydova Karlova, the widow of the slain Russian Ambassador to Turkey.

Before anyone here comes over to start ranting about Russia's role in Aleppo (since many have opined that his assassination is in retaliation to the country's role in Aleppo), first think of what happened in Germany (who took in so many refugees) and why the Germans had to lose their lives to a fundamentalist despite the help the Germans tried providing to those with crisis in their countries/regions. Do they deserve what befell them?
