You need to understand their historical antecedence to understand why the idea of Igbo separation scares them.
Theses afonjas are historically very averse to independence. They have always been tettered to one ruler or the other, and they generally find the idea of servitude very pleasing. It is a genetic thing.
The british conquered their rulers very quickly, with the people very agreeable to a foreign ruler, unlike the troublesome east where the brits needed to conquer clans after clans.
Even the quest for the Nigerian independence was spearheaded by the same igbos they love to hate.
