A Nairalander's Culture, Always On 25th December. (pics) by Pinkybush(op):
This is how Christmas is always celebrated in my town (Esit Urua), Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State, on every 25th December. It started long time ago, during out forefather's time. I won't go into details how it started. It is call "Ekong." It always attract people within the state, like Uyo and outside the state, like PH, Calabar, etc to come and see. The face of the masquerade can reach up to six with different patterns. If one should come for the first time, he/she would want to be coming always.

BTW next year I'll tell Lalasticala to cancel going to Dubai for Xmas, but to come and enjoy #culture

op, i think u should do a proper documentary for this thread to make some sense.

not just uploading pix, u are trying to sell ur cultural heritage as such u should be able to tell us the history, origin, purpose, etc of the masquerade display.

I love cultural displays.

I haven't seen the matchete-weilding Atat or the pole-walking Abio akpō . The more friendly ekwoñg is also missing. Nice.
