Snowfall On Sahara Desert (rare) by Sheungbengar(op): 12:01am On Dec 26, 2016
Snowfall was recorded in the Sahara Desert for the first time in 37 years

It snowed on December 19 in the Sahara Desert, and NASA’s Landsat 7 satellite was there (or rather, hundreds of miles overhead) to see it.
The photo comes from Landsat 7’s Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus visible-light camera, and depicts the first snowfall recorded in the massive African desert in 37 years.
The snow-covered area depicted in the photo lies on the northern end of the desert, near the Moroccan-Algerian border and the town of Ain Safra. Here’s the full image, which you can click to enlarge:

This map shows the approximate region of the photo, with images from previous years for comparison:

NASA notes that snow is not all that rare on the African continent, with regular snowfall on high peaks like Kilimanjaro and sites where people ski in South Africa .Snowfall was recorded in the Sahara Desert for the first time in 37 years

One of the effects of climate change. Snow in one of the hottest and driest deserts in the world, is unheard of, but I believe it b/c crazy things have been happening lately in different parts of the world due to climate change.

U r wrong. It has snowed in d desert in d past. This is d 1st in 37 years. D Sahara is known for extreme temperatures-extreme heat in d day and extreme cold in d nyt. The snow was formed during d nyt. Not disputing climate change effects in our world though

Re: Snowfall On Sahara Desert (rare) by agrovick(m): 1:58pm On Dec 26, 2016
IMO, this occurrence indicates efforts to reduce global temperatures are working. Data say the Earth used to be colder than what we have of present and that has been the basis of conservation practices.
