Do you have any sample apps/sites you have developed? It'll be interesting if you are really a good developer, and somehow has been managing that with your teaching job.

In answer to your question, Being a freelancer developer is definitely going to be more lucrative than being a teacher. You can expect to earn over 100k each month but you must be prepared to make the initial sacrifice of creating a brand for yourself, usually by seeking and accepting projects for low pay at first as well as marketing the hell out of your self.

Good luck, man.

My brother, freelancing pays (but may be difficult to get started). Although I still count myself as an amateur (in terms of skill marketing), I still make nothing less than #150k monthly.

OP, if your pay as a teacher is low, get a better job! Why not get a job as a developer , that way you could still do freelance work if you choose to. Full-time freelancing is a tough call.
If you need help in packaging your CV as a developer , let me know.
Take care

This thread looks like it's full of talented developers. I'm an American born Nigerian still based in the U.S., looking to outsource software development contracts to Nigerian developers.

I recently visited Lagos and have met with many talented and passionate developers who are not able to find a job as a software engineer. I've also heard many stories of developers having to work without pay for many months even at huge companies which is both shocking and extremely unfair. Nigerian developers are the hardest working and most passionate group of engineers I've ever seen.

Please send an email to esco@hbyte.com with the subject "Nairaland Freelance" if you are looking for work building web apps, mobile applications and APIs.

Freelancing is hard o, It is better you start and use it as Side job until you can stand on your feet as a proper freelancer. Getting jobs on Upwork depends on your rating.

The benefit of freelancing is, If you have good ratings you can get as much as 3k USD in one month. Confirm ! At that point, you are your own Boss.
