Think home, invest home sounds cool but not cool till we remove some vengeful and hateful vile filled miscreants in our midst.

Dedetwo:
If the Ndigbo have geographical expression which they can call home then they can think home. Economic power without political power is a wild goose chase.
Did you mean that Igbos have no home? You must be joking.
Igboland composed of
States :
Most or all parts of:
Abia State, Anambra State, Ebonyi State, Enugu State, Imo State
Major parts of:
Delta State, Rivers State
Minor parts of:
Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Benue State, Cross River State, Edo State, Kogi
State.

We Igbos can easily attain economic power rather political power in this nigerian settings. Our fore fathers did it before the war and even the Germans are using Economic power in EU. The powerful countries of the world are even using economic power to rule the world.
IT IS POSSIBLE IF ONLY WE IGBOS THINK AND INVEST HOME.

Development and support for SME's is the way to go. we have 1,001 igbos who can invest between N5m to N10m. If these 1,001 persons can employ 3 - 5 people, then we will have a lot of jobs created all over the place. The issue might not be security alone. Double taxation might be the major issue. Different group of revenue collectors come on daily basis to ask for one form of revenue or another. You pay until you are forced out of the environment. Paying lip service alone might not encourage anyone to think and invest at home. The leadership can do more. Some countries offer tax holidays to investors. Please address the real issues and see things change drastically.
You are very correct on the issue of double taxation. I think our Governors and all political stakeholders should create an enabling environment that will attract Igbo investors back home.
Most of the wise Igbos are now gradually relocating their business to Igboland. I pray that they should succed. AMEN

How can a whole tribe vacate their ancestral homeland? And expect other Nigerians quietly enjoying their own homeland to respect them?

I feel very ashamed and embarrassed when I see elderly Igbo men and women living in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Benin etc. A big shame. I never see an elderly Yoruba man outside Yoruba land. Elderly Fulani or Hausa land are are rare outside the north.

OBJ has told us our development is up to us.

Nature has placed Igbo land and demarcated the competencies
Enugu should focus on administration
Ebonyi should focus on agro industries
Anambra should focus on commerce and industries
IMO should focus on tourism and education
Abia should focus on fabrications and industries
Anioma should run off on Anambra and key into agro industries and education

If 1 million Igbo plough back 1 million in investment , we should be having about a trillion ..Which will leap frog the investment ..But will the Igbo land contain massive inflow

Then we should also look at infrastructure..The Anambra and Enugu states seems to be getting it right , Abia is on track ...Rochas ..Hmmmm he did it first tenure and now ..Well I will be in east tomorrow to know

God bless Igbo land

I don't totally agree with okezie (he and other SE governors-both past and present- are culpable regarding the fix we are in ) .I don't think any other SE city has quite the urban planning or number of expatriate/multinational companies aba has yet the city hasn't experienced a paradigm shift or uplift meant in its infrastructure. He should fix golden guinea brewery, abia ceramics and aba glass industry .Those companies if functional would absorb not less than 2000 workers .As for our brethren in other regions,I think their returning shouldn't be our priority, most of them have no claim to being Igbo anymore rather,we should strive to encourage the multitude of youths graduating and growing up per year to stay back home .Those are the peeps from which the next coscharis, capital oil,Slovak and orange group would come from.
Though I agree with you that the SE governors has alot to do to help the situation, but I don't think they can do it all. We as a citizen of SE can equally change things by investing home and bringing up new ideas that can change things.

YES, Igboland can contain massive inflow of investment and her people. Whenever you go to East, just look for an opportunity where your hometown or state has comparative advantage and tap into it.

Your correct

I think Igbo land isn't doing badly at all when placed side by side with other regions ....We have fared well

But we shouldn't rest on our oars...We have to repatriate some of our profits overseas home just like the Chinese, Jews and Lebanese

Ignore that !diot, I bet that guy is an afonja imposter claiming Igbo. Replying him will just derail the post. Joining a pig in a mud fight can only bring out the best in him because thats his turf and he has no shame. On topic we Igbos have the largest pool of local investors and if majority of them should invest in the East, it will significantly increase our GDP.
That is what I am trying to pass across. You can pass it across to the Igbos arround you to create the awareness.

I think he is referring to rural areas in Igbo land, to be frank with you most of them are economically deserted . Last year I visited my hometown could you believe that there was no single male youth in that town. When I went to church I only saw old people and small children staying with them. I was really touched and I have made up my mind to help correct such anomaly.

Yea! You are correct, he is an Afonja hiding under Igbo moniker.

Back to the topic, we need to reduce such rural urban migration by gradually turning the rural areas to urban centres.

Must you be Igbo to discuss Igbo related issues on NL?.
If you want a monolithic and conformist discussion, then carry this out of Nigeria's Nairaland to any other site that is exclusive for Igbos.

true ,but our governors would have to lay down the foundation first .if those men put in place massive infrastructures, all other things would fall into place.for instance, the ogbor hill in aba industrial cluster housing naflex, glass force,gzi,7-up,nnpc gas measuring and depot, aba malting plant etc ,has room for expansion if only the governor would provide new access roads and expand existing ones to those localities. That in the osisioma axis housing;Guinness brewery, aba mega mall, tonimas, valumbra and many more soap, aluminum and plastic industries is sorely in need of a residential estate.let the governor of abia lay in place such modalities and see if more of our brethren doesn't invest home.
their is a reason most of the investment our brethren in other regions bring back home is mostly hotels and shopping plazas because, that's what our public infrastructure at the moment entails.I would love to see our governors pull together funds to begin projects that would give a qualitative advantages in some economic aspects.

This is an Abia state problem. Can you imagine that till date Aba is the regional waste dumpsite while umuahia is more or less a glorified local govt council. betterabiastate is aware.

Re: How We Can Develop Ala-Igbo - Okezie Ikpeazu by PentiumPro(f):
The government of the Eastern state should talk less and act more. They often talk like people bereft of ideas on how to attract people back home.

1. Create the enabling environment by investing massively in security apparatus (Lagos is not doing father Christmas every year by donating equipment to the security community yearly)
2. Create Industrial Free trade zones in each of the senatorial district in each state (ask Ogun state how they've succeeded in that)
2. Give tax break such as pioneering status and tax moratorium.
4.Provide recreational parks and green areas ( not building corner shops on every available piece of land)
5.Make states very criminal unfriendly.
Like OBJ said, you have the tools, develop the political will and stop waiting on some phantom manna from Abuja,

if you ask anyone for pictures of Lagos before the war you will get it. Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ilesha, Akure, Offa, Ogbomosho, Ife, and so on, all had pictures before the war and showed what state of development they were in. So how is it that this your best city in Africa, no one can find pictures taken of it and showing these developments you claim it had before the war?
Go and read, The making of an African legend: The Biafra story , by Frederick Forsyth, chapter 8, The Character of Biafra. I quoted the passage from there. As for the structures, all of it was destroyed during the war. We just re-started economic development after the war.
