agabusta:IBEDC is the worst of them all. I live around Iyana Church-Lalupon road (Ibadan), all they are interested in is just to collect bribes from unmetered consumers and the community hardly enjoy 5hrs of electricity at a stretch in a whole week. They claim they are broke to invest in a capital project that will energize the communities concerned, I am yet to see electricity overnight for the past two years that I have been residing in this community. SHAME ON YOU IBEDC . It is now very glaring that the whole privatization exercise was full of fraud, the importers of generators and sellers of PMS dont care about the people, all they are after is their daily sales as a result of the darkness. The truth is that most of the DISCOs top executes are the true owners of generator selling companies. The way out of this mess is for everyone to switch to SOLAR POWER energy, I dont know why the leaders dont want to take Nigerians out of darkness since 1960. What a country to live in without 24hrs electrictity.... |

AZeD1:Yes, from estimated billings, and you can refuse to pay, but you can't refuse to pay with prepaid metre in place. |

latola05:Change is gradual bro. And nobody wants to invest in whatever that won't yield. A company will want to do more if happy about the returns from 5 hrs. Stop giving those ruining marketers money without document to back it up. Besides, you are also one of those sabotaging the progress of power sector if you have been giving money to remain connected without having account with the company. |

ayobase:I mentioned that bribes are taken from unmetered consumers, I use a prepaid meter so there's no way to give out bribes. The challenge is educating the informal consumers on their rights and how they can realize the implications of giving out bribes., ordinarily, the meters should be free but the reverse is the case only in Nigeria. |
| Re: Eight Discos Turns Down 1,337MWH From TCN Despite Erratic Supply To Consumers by Paentera(m): 6:12pm On Dec 28, 2016 |
AZeD1:The article clearly indicates that the DISCOs are being supplied beyond their MYTO quota. What this translates to is that a DISCO that based its revenue on 200MW is now being supplied in excess of 200MW while the revenue from the same quantum of energy (200MW) isn't guaranteed considering that commercial losses (customers not paying their bills, connivance of DISCO staff & energy theives e.t.c) in such areas could be as high as 40%. Effectively, where a DISCO is unable to meet its invoice obligations to TCN based on its fixed revenue stream based on a caped MYTO, it then would make sense that they reject extra energy "pushed" to them as their consumers will not pay for it yet, TCN will still bill them. Its a rather convoluted industry. |

agabusta:The federal and state governments are owing the DISCOS 300billion? And most Nigerian consumers feel it's their birthright either not to pay for electricity, to steal outright or tamper and pay only a portion. Onless an iron hand is unleashed on all parties, the power sector will be in a qusndary |

EnigmaticEnigma:Licences / regulation are in the hands of the regulatory agency NERC. We used to need a minister of power because the FG held sway in the power sector from start to finish, but that is not the case any more. Read more and educate your self. You can start by checking the NERC website. |

ayobase:This statement 'Nigerlites don't pay bills' was debunked by their manager that day. Because this is what some people would tell you, so we wanted to hear from the horse's mouth. Na only we dey for Nigeria? Nigerlites are the most peaceful, law abiding people, ever. I always wondered why some people said it's because we don't pay bills. Rather, the man was giving an epistle about the issues surrounding power in Nigeria. No one is going back. They were told this is just the first leg, and that if things start sliding again, they should expect another. I think it has to do with vigilance. Nigerians have this laid back approach to issues like this, which is why we are easily taken for granted. If Nigerians start marching to those in power with various demands pertaining to what ought to be ours, they would surely sit up and listen. |

AZeD1:Look, you can always make yourself useful, especially when you have so much clout as the freaking "MINISTER OF POWER". It's simple, if he as useless as you say he is and he possesses even an ounce of integrity, then he should step down and save the nation some much needed income. Else, he should get to work, even if it is just as a lobbyist with that clout, he would get so much done. My Dad was once in those circles and he was an excellent lobbyist to the point that he would get backlogs of issues that needed authorization from a different "department", sorted just by lobbying those with the direct authorization needed to solve his "departments" problems. He didn't just sit down, fold his arms and say there was nothing he could do. |

PentiumPro:Your solution submission is fantastic! And I agree with you 100%. The OP post is a complete misnomer. How can a seller have customers who are demanding for his product and yet limit the amount of goods he is supplied? Only 2 reasons can be adduced. 1. If his customers won't pay after he has supplied them. And this EXACTLY IS WHAT PREPAID METERS ARE MEANT TO SOLVE COMPLETLY. 2. If his goods get stolen. Now this is the situation of by-passing meters by prepaid customers! Many of us Nigerians are thieves. The DISCOS try to steal from customers; the customers try to steal from DISCOS too. That is why it has not been well with our country. We need to reduce this cycle of cheating. Although citizens ought to be honest enough to keep from illegal meter bypass, the DISCOS must device an effective means of tracking down cheating by-passers! What are all the professors of Electrical electronics engineering doing to help meter bypassing!? If with all their years of 'research' they cannot come up with any solution, then what a big SHAME! |

I noticed IKEDC was not mentoned . The power sector is slowly maturing and adjusting yo the economic realities on ground. The players just need to be creative and device means to make the business sustainable. The good thing is that we now have a transparent (seemingly) power sector unlike what we had in the previous regime where the policies and management of these national assets were shrouded in secrecy and contious denial. The stakeholders need to be proactive and device means of generating more revenue. What is Paramount at the moment is for the govt to put in place a policy framework that will encourage FDI into these sector. As more FDI comes in so also will professional expertise come in. Transparency is really, really key. Moreover, the purchasing power of customers among the discos cannot be at parallel with each other and at such rates will have to differ just like the rates differ I'm other come untried too. Slowly, we are approaching blower sufficiency. |

Abujaexpress:Thank you. If they begin to punish those bypassing electricity, the system will work. But they need to provide more meters to people and then focus on checkmating offenders. The truth of the matter is that the Discos know they won't supply light so they don't like to install meters. With estimated bills, people are forced to pay whether they use light or not. Nigerians should reject estimated bills and say No Prepaid meter, No payment! Simple. |

AZeD1:Bro, you are the only person looking at the case from a realistic point of view. Nigerians just blame Fashola but forget that Jonathan already sold the system out. And the truth is that when the discos know that the generality of Nigerians are not ready to pay( I know what I am saying) for supply used(a lot reconnect when disconnected while theft of electricity through meter by-pass is high), its better they reject to areas that give them problems. |

Reference:There is nothing sentimental about my post. Except u don't know the meaning of sentiments. The useless discos did their feasibility studies before calling their friends and families to lobby for them. After mismanagement and Corruption within their own system they are rejecting power with the excuse of not being able to pay. Are u using light free of charge? Are thry not the ones who fought for increase in tarrifs. Will people not pay for the ligbt distributed? Fact is PHCN was performing better than these thieves, and if they can't cope, the privatisation should be reversed an competent companies Should be given the opportunity to invest. What comparisons are u making with "world wide" are u talking of countries that enjoy 24hrs electricity a round the year? Are u comparing it to a country struggling to even give an hr of electricity yet some clowns are rejecting the ones being sent to them. Tmr they will blame gencos when attacked for poor electricity. U are the one not objective here. That should be clear to u. |

The business man has only refused to supply to a group of people that already owe him huge amount and are not ready to pay him. So is it Fashola that will pay for electricity you and your community members want to use but are not ready to pay for? Habba! |
