The Senate president said the federal lawmakers would focus on making more laws that will promote the economy, enhance the budget process and support the fight against corruption. According to Today, Dr. Saraki gave this indication while speaking with State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja yesterday.

Saraki said: “In 2017, our attention will be on the economy because that is really a major issue for us as a country. We want to see some of the economic bills put forward passed, to see that there is greater improvement in the budget process in 2017, and to see that the government implements the budget early.”

“Also, one of our pet projects is made-in-Nigeria products. We want to see that government continues to support Nigerians in this area so that we can begin to cushion the difficult times Nigerians are going through.”
“So, next year is very important to us and I think, on the part of National Assembly, we will continue to give our support to ensure that the right things are done,” he said.
He further noted that the senators achieved more in the last three months than they did in the entire year, adding that the National Assembly is settling down and, as such, Nigerians would see many more bills passed for the president to assent, as reported by Today.
On the president’s signing of 17 bills into law, Saraki said, “It shows, in part, what we have been able to do in the National Assembly and there are many more bills to come and the president is also responding to them. You are going to see more of that in 2017; there are a lot of bills lined up.”

can someone tell him it is not the number of bills assented to that matters but if it would serve it purpose...if the National Assembly wants to be taken serious and at least praise for one thing "someone should pass a bill that the national assembly should be based on part time basis" then we will take them serious...

Mr. Saraki, please focus on many important issues in 2017. Bills concerning issues e.g.

-LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY BILL

-COMPULSORY HEALTH INSURANCE BILL- for all Nigerians. Health insurance should be made easy and mad compulsory. This way the health sector will be properly funded and regulated.

HEALTH CARE REFORMS BILL- all these clinics that call themselves hospitals. Please set a minimum standard before health centers are set up and approved. Classify them into classes and ensure enough emergency centers are scattered across. Let medical personnel be culpable of homicide where they show their gross negligence. Every death in the a hospital should be properly investigated. angry

-TRUE FEDERALISM BILL- de emphasize from the center. Let regions have healthy competition and invite investments.

-PETROLEUM INDUSTRY BILL- the oil companies are still bribing and lobbying abi? They are kicking against this bill so it will be business as usual abi?

-BILL AGAINST JUNGLE JUSTICE- no more of this rubbish. Reform the police and judicial system.

-BILL AGAINST RAPE OF MINORS/ADULTS BOTH MALE OR FEMALE- 100 years imprisonment/catstration/sealing of the vulva or something. angry angry

-ANTI CORRUPTION BILL- 100 years imprisonment/forfeiture of all assets apart from worn clothes on the day of Verdict. angry

-POLICE BRUTALITY/EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLING BILL
Death sentence to any police that kills extra judicially. angry

-FULANI HERDS MEN REFORMS BILL undecided

Etc. Etc. Etc. cheesy cheesy grin if una want bills, w go give una. Una no dey even meet with una constituents. Una just dey Abuja dey help us assume. Our problems no be those yeye bills wey una dey pass. Not these other yeye bills that have no bearing on the common man.

Please, there are many issues that require proper regulation, enforcement and policy formulation around them.
