If you had cared to refer to the full speech of Mr president (the full version of the video clip is still available in youtube; while the written transcript of same can also be traced using google search - for verification) you will quickly come to realise that he was deliberately being quoted out of context, in order to give his message an entirely opposite meaning to what he actually said - so as to malign him.

Again, you will observe that the media was and is still guilty of being willing collaborators in the propagation of this misinformation to the majority of the gullible public, because they (the media) have done nothing so far to correct this anomaly.

Sentiments aside, 90% of people just sit down in their homes and pass a guilty verdict on the herdsmen. Yes there are stories about herdsmen allowing their cattle to trample upon farmlands and there are stories about herdsmen killing villagers but there are also stories about villagers hijacking cattle and killing them for meat and also villagers killing herdsmen over arguments. At the risk of sounding very very politically incorrect, I would say that much of the crimes committed against herdsmen go unreported and unpublicized while much of those committed by the herdsmen get publicized. Nevertheless the security guys must be more proactive to stop the killing of anybody. Anyone who kills in the name of herdsmen, farmers crisis should be hanged.

This is why it is good to listen to both sides to a story. The secretary told their story and non of the comments above has shown any sympathy to their loses and this attitude is the general way Nigerians treat issues of attacks on the Fulanis. Attacks on the Fulanis largely go unreported by the Nigerian mass media. The secretary mentioned specific attacks on the Fulanis, the loses they have suffered as a result and measures they took to avert crisis but all all have been ignored. The people of southern Kaduna should take actions that are geared towards restoring peace to the area and not listen those calling for retaliation because if it comes to fighting the nomads clearly have the advantage.

I maintain my stand that his utterances have been very divisive. A man who talks when he should keep quiet, and keeps quiet when he should speak.

I don't run any research institute, I am a hausa Muslim and I considered myself detribalized as well. The truth of the matter is that the present style of grazing by the fulani where cows are allowed to roam about will definitely put them at loggerheads with not just southern Christians but Muslim hausa farmers as well and instances of such clashes have well been documented. On the present clashes in southern Kaduna I observed that locals are quick to kill not only fulanis but hausas as well in the event of any misunderstanding or trampling on farmlands which could ordinarily be settled amicably. Mere mentioned of a hausa or fulani Muslim in any issue is enough to shed his blood without minding what caused the problem in the first place. And it is not just fulani that are being targeted on federal roads and killed but hausas as well or any person wearing the look of a Muslim. I lost a distant relative to such crises who was traveling to his place of construction work along with two other friends in the same southern Kaduna. Only one of them managed and escaped to tell the story and as it is now, no muslim will dare travel through the area because even though it is purely with nomads, the locals don't waste time to turn it to a kind of religious crises where anyone that looks muslim got killed. So in other to minimize such clashes, fulanis must adopt a ranch method and locals must learn to seek justice through law enforcement agencies and their traditional institutions to get adequate compensations for damages done by cattles
