Owerri — Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, yesterday, said ”70 per cent of Ndigbo do not listen to news and do not read newspapers.” Okorocha stated this on Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Owerri, through his Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Obinna Nshirim. Nshirim made this remark as part of what he “discovered” during the yuletide.

He said: ”While others were enjoying their Christmas, I was moving around because it is my duty as information commissioner to know how far I have informed the people as well as to get feedback  from them.

Rochas Okorocha “In what could be described as a shocking experience while going around, I discovered to my horror that our people are not informed. “70 percent of Igbo do not listen to news, they do not read newspapers.

We say we are intelligent, we say we are informed but that Hausa boy that cleans your shoe has a radio in his pocket.” While criticizing those who did not believe in the free education policy of the government, he also blamed churches for using the newspapers to “play down the beauty of government.” He said: ”I do not know what has come upon our churches.

I think a man of God should acknowledge virtue and hit hard on vices. Thats what  makes him a man of God.” Nshirim did not mention the name of the newspaper, neither did he mention the name of any clergyman against Okorocha’s government.

On the issue of payment of pensioners in the state, Chief Jude Ugboaja, who called to contribute to the radio programme, raised what best could be described as a vital issue, as it affected pensioners in the state.

While presenting his opinion, he said: ”I discovered that some of these pensioners that have been paid are now saying that most of their pension arrears were not effectively calculated. “Somehow, they were shortchanged.

I want to suggest that the state government sets up an enquiry to actually find out whether those who are doing this, are doing it deliberately.

8 radio stations dey Abia state.

16 radio stations dey Anambra, 3more to open this year

3 dey Ebony

12 dey enugu

9 dey Imo

If these radio stations are not enjoying massive listenership, why is their business booming? And why this number of stations?

Yes we don't listen to Government radio stations like Orient FM because it's a propaganda station that carry stale news or govt lies only. Hot FM, Zandas, and others have great followership and people listen to them. Eg, when the SA to the governor on media went to Hot FM and sad said govt was punishing the Owerri people, the news went viral because people were listening. Mr commissioner, you know I know you, when was the last time you put on your radio to listen to Orient FM? Other stations are progressing with morden equipments, it was still the same things that Udenwa that is still there. Their producers are stuck in the 90's. Just go and sleep because as for me and my house hold, mmmmmbbbaaa

Which information? The major yardstick to measure the audience of a radio programme is the number of calls received during a live programme.

Maybe Imo people refused to listen to the state propaganda-praise-singing-archaic-analogue radio station and the clueless government Concluded that the region does not listen to radio.

The question is, why so many radio stations in the region if there is poor listenership?

Pls, does anybody know when Rochas's administration will come to an end? I can't wait really. The imo state government under Rochas Okorocha have been the most silly in Igboland since 1999. Apart from their usuall insults on Igbos, they derive joy in deriding Igbos by presenting unsubstantiated infromation as fact to support their evil machinations.

You measure investment by the return on investment and also measure productivity by the quantity and quality of good and service produced. My question is what has aboki and they like by being informed and carrying radio around. Let us evaluate the end products of all the productions to ascertain the quality and quantity. Aboki is informed because he carries radio around, the check out his live grin rubbish

Sometimes these guys just descend so low to plainly insult their constituents all in the name of playing politics. Just because the people you interacted with refused to be fooled by your media propaganda, u term them ignorant and brand 70% of them as not listening to radio / reading newspapers, yet in the same line and under the same breath you allege that churches are misinforming the people through the pages of newspapers, abeg is it the same media you just claimed 70% of imolites are ignorant of? Stupid statement from a political jobber. Your type wouldn't mind insulting your family on air so long as it puts food on your table
