All i want is a sustainable improvement in the power sector, not reaching 5000mw today, by tomorriw it goes down to 3000mw. Fashola should just sort this power issue out and do well in road construction. I can assure him with that he can become the president. 2 Likes |

They have been generating 4000mw since independence, the highest they ever got was 6000mw , then it drops again, the number 6 is cursed in the power sector, the ministry, the power plants, the transmission lines, the distribution companies ... They all need deliverance |

9jakohai: Oga leave dis ur analysis first and face d real issues and facts on ground. By ur analysis d cost of electricity in those countries are higher and in otherwords we ought to pay higher to enjoy improved electricity. Now let me ask u, how many of those countries do customers have to contribute to buy their own transformers, and buy other accessories like electric poles and cables and still have d power companies brand it their property? U do realise ur calculation for d country is actually what we pay for power NOT provided? D customers have always been shortchanged over here and yet u want to blame dem? If U know how much an average Nigerian spends on alternative power (Gen) plus d estimated billing he pays for light he doesn't see den u'll realise all d power companies need to do is improve and provide light and people will pay because dey spend more even wen d light isn't there. 1 Like |

Nbote: And where do you expect the power companies to get the money to improve and provide light? (Maybe you people should have stood up and protested when power was being privatized? But even govt cannot afford to fund power adequately....which is why we have DISCOS nowadays....) A lot of Nigerians, and for that matter government agencies do not pay for power. As a result, we do not have the money to improve capacity....which is why people like you who do pay are not seeing any improvement. Only 30 percent of people living in the area covered by my local DISCO (about 5-6 states) pay their bills regularly. Meanwhile the DISCOS have to pay for things like gas....and most Nigerians gas companies prefer to be paid in dollars rather than Naira. See the problem. 1 Like |

9jakohai: D real issue has neva been about paying d bills but generating d power. Can u really blame ppl for not wanting to pay estimated bills generated by these DISCOs in d comfort of their offices. Bills are given even wen ur light has been disconnected apart from d fact dat d light is barely there in d first place. Tariffs have been reviewed a couple of times dis year already and ppl have no choice but to pay except u have an alternative which is going to b either cheaper or atleast moderate. Whether privatized or not, Govt is still in charge of generation so what are we talking about here. If d govt is serious what happened to improving generation by upgrading wateva is already on ground for maximum output and possibly bringing new ones into the fold. D DISCOs have no business with generation but selling what is generated via distribution and d only to curtail so called non payment of bills is d metering billing, whether prepaid or otherwise but no dey won't because with d volume of power distributed dey are much more comfortable with estimating bills and meeting targets. |

Power should be decentralised. There should be nothing like national grid. Each state should produce their own power.. |

Aburi001: Bro, transmission is still owned and managed by FG. Check the budget details for the Ministry of Power and you will find that about 20%(N40 billion) is budgeted for capital projects for TCN which is the ONLY transmission company in Nigeria. http://budgetoffice.gov.ng/pdfs/2017pro/FEDERAL%20MINISTRY%20OF%20POWER,%20WORKS%20&%20HOUSING%20-.pdf |

Nbote: 1.Government is no longer fully in charge of generation...that is the GENCOS. 2.You have heard about DISCOS rejecting power? That is because they cannot pay for the power....due to most people and govt agencies not paying their bills. Same reason why they cannot buy gas for the gas fired plants. 3.Tarrifs are also going up because gas companies prefer payment in dollars , not in naira. 4.Transmission is the thing that is fully in the hands of government. 5.We need $100bn additional funding for power supply to improve. Money we do not have. |
Re: HOME » NEWS » Electricity Generation Hits 4,009MW, Improves Gradually by Nbote(m): 11:41am On Jan 05, 2017 |
9jakohai: Who are d so-called GENCOS? All na d same wash. If u claim govt isn't in charge of generation why are dey building more power stations? On behalf of d GENCO like u call dem or what? How can d govt be in charge of transmission wen there are no private power generation yet? Forget all d paper grammar d govt use to divert attention from their inefficacy and precarious state of d power sector. Are u trying to say d govt is building all those generation plants for /on behalf of the GENCOs or what? Wateva reasons dey give for tariffs going up are jus excuses because u and I know at d end of d day d bills are estimated based on their distribution so dey simply divide and share to customers excluding those using prepaid metres. How do dey arrive at d estimates considering dey don't read metres and majority of Nigerians still don't have prepaid metres. |

Re: HOME » NEWS » Electricity Generation Hits 4,009MW, Improves Gradually by Paentera(m): 2:14pm On Jan 05, 2017 |
Aburi001: For 11 DISCOs sold, government through BPE still controls 40% of each DISCO For 6 GENCOs sold, government through BPE still controls 20% of each GENCO. In other words, the government owes a responsibility to ensure that it keeps to its own side of the bargain by contributing its quota towards the success of the Privatisation program. So far, it has also fallen short of doing this. Not ALL power infrastructure owned by the government was privatised, hence why there are agencies like NIPP (National Integrated Power Project - http://www.nipptransactions.com/) that ownership of all other infrastructure was vested in. NIPP still continues to receive huge sums of funding from the Federal government basically to improve infrastructural assets for the power industry. Recall the pole mounted HVDS 50kVa transformers installed in your areas? These are NIPP projects and power plants such as Geregu II and many others are developed, owned by the FG. 3 Likes |
