If you can elucidate more on this, I will be very glad. How have they(Benin Govt) been reaping us ? If a car comes through land borders, won't customs be paid the necessary tariff ? What is the difference between a car coming through the land or sea ? They all pay tarrif ? isn't it ? Could it be that paying tarrif to Benin govt and bringing the car to Nigeria to pay another tarrif is what the govt is trying to avoid ,?.

Most of the car importers in Benin r Nigerians, so they prefer to take their imported goods to Cotonou then sell to Nigerians from der and den dese cars r smuggled in......

Firstly D racketeering going on in d land borders is massive so even if duty is collected, it's often times not remitted... Which will not happen through d sea.

So who loses at d end.... Nigerian govt.

Benin govt gains because they collect d duty at their seaport and den Nigerians buy from there which is even anoda soirce of revenue to them.

D importers gain too, D customer gains,.d biggest losers is d Nigerian govt.

With d price of crude this low all options to generate income must be used
