It’s no longer news that all non-academic staff of Nigeria universities will be embarking on an industrial action tomorrow to warn and remind the government of their promises in their 2009 agreement with the union.

Most university union’s has shown positive reactions to the strike, with the likes of OAU, UI and others actively involved. Many students have since been thrown into the dark on possible result(s) of the strike. We take a brief look at five possible implications of the strike on the university students.

1. Practical Classes May not Hold

As all know, the NAAT part of the non-teaching staffs are the ones in control of the practical activities in the University laboratories, since they will not be on ground to conduct the practical, it directly means the classes won’t hold.

2. Water and Electricity Supply Maybe Epileptic

To face the truth, the NASU part of the union are in control of the water and Electricity control areas. Therefore, if they are not on-ground to see to the pumping of water and serving of electricity, who will? However the OAU branch has promised to be lenient on the students.

3. Dirty Academic Environment

Refuse and sewage maybe packed, but it will take and exogenous influence for it to be moved to the decomposition zone where it will be disintegrated. If the NASU members are not going to this, our university environments will be littered and dirty for a whole week, it’s unethical.

4. Constrained Academic Activities

If number should eventually happen, the academic calendar will be cheated, which means activities that ought to take two weeks normally may be cut to one week’s. You know what constraint could do to some who is not a “multitasker”.

5. Possible Shutdown of the Libraries

You need to get a new venue if you’re a library crawler. All Libraries in Nigeria’s public university May not function for the next week, as the NASU members Augment the activities in the Library.

With all this listed above, it may be a week of fasting and perseverance for Nigerian Students.

They wanna strike? Cool, let them go...

Just sack them and get a new set of Jobless youths willing to adjust to whatever you provide. I bet they will do fine sitting at home for the rest of their lives.

I remember my days as an undergraduate in one nigerian university. I just shake my head in pity; almost a decade now and things are still this shitty. ThankGod I was wise enough to move to a saner clime to complete my education.

To whom it may Concern.

Good day! my fellow Nairalanders, I am new on this platform and I wish I could share my ordeal maybe God can touch your heart to assist me in anyway you can.
I am olawale by name, I graduated from Fed polytechnic 2015 (ND). Before I got admitted into polytechnic, have stayed at home for 5yrs due to inability to cater for school expenses, but with little I could raised due to petty job I was doing, I got admitted to school in 2012, but due to internal strikes 2yrs program turned to 3yrs. I went for industrial Training last year and I was also doing little job to keep myself up and don't want to stay at home before proceed for HND which made me obtain HND form some months ago, glory be to God, I was admitted last week, but the problem I am facing currently is that all what I could raised during my industrial Training is not enough for me to do the registration because I did IT to gained experience not for money, so I wasn't paid throughout my IT year.
I NEED assistance from a good samarittan for my HND registration because the registration is closing on Feb 4 and I have done all I could in other to get money, but I couldn't. I don't want to loose this opportunity because this could be the last opportunity to go to school again.
I don't need cash because people may think its a scam the Tuition fee is online and anybody that want to assist me can get my Registration number and pay it online.

Please, whoever that God provide for can assist me and I pray whoever that's reading this message will never be in discomfort.
Thanks,

He's obviously a kid who hasn't been working and thus encourages govt to sack any striking worker.

I agree with your list but top of the challenges in light; remember my UI days; light won't blink so at the end lectures would be affected.

The major implications are; 1. No Certificate or Statement of Result will be issued. 2. No transcript will be processed. 3. No security is assured on campus. 4. Electricity failure and no water supply. 5. No Registration/ Screening of Candidates. 6.Closure of Library. 7. Closure of school gate. 8. No processing of students mails e.t.c.

They are as important as lecturers too. Just like when Company junior staff go on strike, things will just be on standby mode, nothing happens.
