Hello NL,

I know there is a part of the scripture that states the additional percentage one needs to add to tithes once you dont pay at the right month but i cant seem to lay my hands on it now.

Can anyone who understands the calculation help me?

Apart from the fact that tithes is not required of you as a christian, there is no passage in scripture that says you must pay interest if you are late in paying your tithes. Whoever told you that must have twisted scriptures to arrive at that false conclusion.

Exactly. @OP Just meet up with your tithe and that is all. Most do not even pay anyone that they failed to pay.

it's 12percent and is in the last chapter of Leviticus. .Nevertheless, you are not bound to pay it. If you find it burdensome now, do not bother. God loves it when we give cheerfully.

Who ask you to pay tithe with money, deutoronomy 14 says sell the increase of your harvest to money and take it to where the Lord commandeth and use the money to buy foodstuff and eat some, give to the poor and needy and to your priest. Even malachi say bring your tithe to the storehouse of the Lord not bank account of the church.

Leviticus 27:30-33 ESV

“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord. One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”

You can check other versions.

A fifth should be 5/100 * Your Tithe. So if your Tithe is supposed to be 10,000 for Instance, your new Tithe will be (5/100 * 10,000) + 10000 = 10,500. 500 additional

IF on the other hand it is cumulative or a high amount, the rule remains unchanged.Lets take 1M for Instance, your new tithe will become (5/100*1,000,000) + 1,000,000 = 1,050,000. 50k additional

When God established the tithe he said it was to be 10% of Israel’s AGRICULTURAL produce. There was MONEY in use then but God still specified it as farm produce. In fact under certain conditions God allowed that they could TURN THEIR TITHE into MONEY (i.e. convert the tithe into money by selling them), take the money to where they are to tithe and use the money to buy back the tithe items for observance of the tithe. NO MONEY was used in TITHING!

Leviticus 27:30-33 ESV

“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord. One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”

So, if you must tithe, do it God’s way as clearly prescribed in his Word. Failure to follow God’s clearly laid down procedure is tantamount to DISOBEDIENCE!

Your calculation is wrong. Should be an additional 20% which is 1/5th.

He was totally correct.
If you earn 50k, then:
Your tithe is 5,000
Additional pay for late payment is 5% of 5,000 = 250
Total tithe to remit will be: 5,000 + 250 = 5,250.
