This has always been a question on many people's mind. A lot of people believe the transmission would be a toast when driving say 60km/hr and just change to reverse in an automatic transmission car.

Well, that's not the case, at least in modern cars. A YouTuber autovlog tested this with his Ford fusion. When changed to reverse in motion nothing happened. The back up camera came on but the car kept moving forward like it was in neutral. Watch the video below to get a better understanding.

Infact, it will only enter the reverse gear if u force it and the teeths will break as u said

It is almost impossible to put a manual tranny into reverse while driving forward.

I tried it with my Porsche.... crashed it sha but did it with my G WAGON and nothing happened.. haven't tried it on my camaro or my cadillac sha

U will get a noisy sound, the gear will forcefully become stiff and refuse to enter reverse.

the gear will be too stiff to enter reverse

In my Car, I don't think you can Change the gear from Drive directly to Reverse WITHOUT applying the brakes FULLY .

So if I'm on 80Km/hr, I can't simply change to Reverse Gear, I must apply my brakes first before the gear will agree to Change/move.
Therefore, there can't be any effect or damage on either my gear, gearbox or Engine. Because once I brake FULLY, there can't be any damage when I change to reverse...

Automatic transmission is the Key. Automatic gear

Forcing my Gear when it is on Drive to change to Reverse without applying brakes, will be like me going to play football in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

On a second thought,that reverse should be an alternative to break failure!!!! Only a real genius would figure this out

As a curious learner, I tried putting my car in park while in motion, I hrd this crack sound from the gear, I was so scared and I returned it back to drive. Nothing happened to the car sha.

It's easier for naira to go back to 150/$ than for a manual car to let that happen
