Guys,pls i need your advise. While driving around my area,a police officer on stop and search junction asked for my papers and driving license which i did. The car belongs to a friend who just purchased it as in Nigerian used but has not done change of ownership. The police officer insist on detaining the car because it doesnt belong me. What do you advise? |

go back tomorrow with proof of purchase and ask to see the DTO or DPO. they will think its a stolen vehicle just drive it to the station and come with your proof of ownership tomorrow |

legalexpert:Many thanks @legalexpert, where do i get the proof of ownership? all the papers are still in former owner name . i showed them the receipt of purchase but they ignore it. |

get the former owner to help u release it. thereafter go to licensing of and get a document known as change of ownership. that document will contain details of former and present owner. which state are you and what division is the car impounded? |

any vehicle licensing office can do it for you. further more what has your friend being doing about the impounded car since it belongs to him. |

Engrmathews:]Ya story sounds suspicious. I hope you have not joined bad gang?? Well the police is ya friend, because if it was me, I will detain you and the car until all parties involved appear to bail you. Meanwhile there is a thing called a police report and a court affidavit. When you buy a used car and you do not intend registering it in your name, you can beat the system with those 2 documents. |
