The United States first used the Articles of Confederation created 1777 ratified 1781. Due to the structural issues related to the problem the Continental congress set out to tweak it but realized the system was lost cause. They then created Constitution of 1787 we see today. The country essentially restructured successfully. Now let's look at Nigeria we have same opportunity to get it correct. The idea is relatively popular is some geopolitical zones. We just need to admit honestly current system is lost cause or simply implement reforms. Funny enough alot don't think nothing wrong with current system. If reforms and restructuring worked for America why not Nigeria? |

Omudia11:The majority are muslim so they can't be drunk. Maybe it's bath salts or mushrooms. Anyway jokes aside this is political issue not ethnic issue. Atiku wants restructuring. |

Unlike Nigeria, USA is a nation of immigrants and not indigenous people. It will work in the USA but it cant work in Nigeria because Igbo/Hausa/Yoruba had their own 'structure' long before the white man came |

Some people just don't want the country to move forward. The present state of things favor them and they won't want that to change. And some other people really have nothing to offer, so the situation now is their saving grace, so they won't support a restructuring. |

Restructuring is a continuous process. Nigeria has always been restructuring. From amalgamation to regions, states (12, 19, 21, 36, ...51?), geo-political zones etc. We need to stop the rhetoric and face our critical challenges head on.. Referendum, consensus, enacting required laws by parliament are ways that can make things happen. |

If you want a restructuring of the country and I think that's a laudable goal, then occupy the National Assembly. |

Because Nigeria have over 500 languages according to ethnologue, the citizens are very tribalistic, very ethnic all, very sentimental, prefers favouritism over capability, prefers tribe over worthiness and practices religion bias |

Historically, Nigeria only makes critical changes at the 11th hour. Peaceful restructuring will not happen in Nigeria because restructuring is the darling of the opposition. There is no body in the high rank of the polity who wants restructuring. Atiku is using his talk about restructuring to cozy up with the populace, like Tinubu did. The Nigerian people are too daft to realize they need to press for restructuring, because they only listen to what the politicians tell them. And for now, they are sold on anti-corruption as the solution to Nigeria's woes, while they are completely oblivious of the fact that eradicating the system (I mean the entire country) of corruption with the current feeding-bottle federalism is IMPOSSIBLE! The polity has the nation and its populace wrapped around their fingers. They'll only consider restructuring when they do not have another choice. And from my observation, that can only happen when the country is in a deep ethnoreligious crisis (akin to a civil war) with secession of regions in the cards, and the only way to sue for peace and keep Nigeria as one is to restructure the country. So, like every change that has happened to Nigeria since 1960, many Nigerians will have to die before the country will be restructured. It's the grim reality. -Lord |

babyfaceafrica:India has more than 2,000 ethnic groups, more than 1 billion people, and India is the birthplace of four of the world's major religions (although 2/3 of the population is Hindu but not hugely more divided than Nigeria that's sharply divided into a Muslim North and Christian South). Yet India is one of the top 10 economies of the world. Nigeria with less than 500 ethnic groups, less than 200 million people, and with only two major religions is supposed to be too multi-cultural to work? The major problem with Nigeria is the political structure. Every other problem from corruption to tribalism to religious intolerance is a symptom of that problem. -Lord |

Blue3k:It can absolutely work in Nigeria its just because the federal govt does not have the political will or courage to do so. In fact, i think that is the solution to all of Nigeria's problems; decentralization like Spain. With the Local govts being allowed to fend for themselves and being given greater say on self governance. Development has to be a bottom up approach as opposed to a top down approach that most third world countries have been pursuing for decades where the central planners run the economy from the centre. Give people the liberty to take care of themselves within a national framework with minimal assistance. This is how the West was developed. Not by forcing economic plans made in Abuja (or the state capital) on the rest of the populace. The local govts should be breeding grounds for experimentation where good policies are then adopted and promoted by the state and if successful they are then adopted by the federal govt. This is how democracy is supposed to work. |

babyfaceafrica:Then get rid of the archaic and pathetic state of origin. Its dumb and it's the reason why Nigeria is still divided till today. In place of it should be 'state of residence'. As long as you have lived in a plsce for at least two years then you can claim residency there. Period. It makes no sense to have lived in a plsce all your life and be told you are not from there. It's just so stupid. |
