How Do I Solve This Problem On Html And Css? by fnep2smooth(m): 4:13pm On Feb 07, 2017
i am building this responsive site from scratch and am through with the homepage and other pages link to it but am having a problem or should i say stock in this particular stage.

1. to create a upload section and a database for where it will store?
2. to create a vote section and will be visible to my visitors?
3. since am building it from scratch will it warrant me to also build an admin page so that i can monitor every activities going on in the site like file uploading and downloading , comment and spam etc?
4. how will i get access to all media file and upload form that are submitted in the site, will i also create a section on it?
5. since am using only html and css to build it, do i need to learn php or or related language to continue with the site?

Note: i am building it offline with notepad++ and am through with the pages, navigation and content that should be on it but am having a challenge with the lists above. thanks

Your website contains alot of functionality and therefore would require more than just the basic front end dev tools.

Your database to store uploaded files, thats Php and Sql.

Youll can also play around Javascript and some of the libraries

Enjoy!

Do not use Dreamweaver if you want to be a web developer. Write the codes by yourself. Like you have been advised, learn Javascript and PHP/SQL, then you will be able to develope any kind of website you want. Dreamweaver will not teach you how to code. It is for people who know how to code very well, who get a lot of business offers. They use it to avoid wasting time or to meet up with the time they give their clients.

What type of site are u trying to build? Your requirements has gone beyond the scope of a web design skill, u need to learn server side script language like PhP, C# for asp.net.

Alternatively, u can download open source script that can solve ur problem to avoid recreating the wheel

i.Using php you need to create a form, inside the form you will have an input type file. for example

<form action="upload.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
Select image to upload:
<input type="file" name="fileToUpload" id="fileToUpload">
<input type="submit" value="Upload Image" name="submit">
</form>

I will recommend using Ajax to make it look smoother and easier to load.. but php will do just fine.

when on the page your directing it to in the case "upload.php"
you can then check
if (isset($_POST['submit']){
//Store the value in a variable,
Validate it to ensure it matches a partivular file type,
if it meets all requirements, you can then run a query on mysql to either update or insert it.

}

2. You need to learn database normalization, and i prefer using Ajax as my page doesnt have to refresh every time i clike the like button
..

With Ajax, Store each "Like" button in a class not an id, now create an Ajax function embedded in a JavaScript, to be triggered on when the click event started. i am using Facebook style to demonstrate this but there are other methods.

3. Yeah, i recommend you build an admin panel, this will help in maintaining your website, i assume your building a forum or something like nairaland?
I recommend you have your directories like this
Admin
Public pages
LoggedUsers.

4. You should create a page for this, but you can also get them from backend,which is unprofessional if you ask me.
Its just a simple query, simply fetch your desired data using proper query and WHERE clause.

5. You need to learn Php, check some of my videos on
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dc3a4isHNE to get a view of what you can achieve with php. remember your building a dynamic website and not a static one, so contents will be updated from time to time, it would be suicidal to build such a complex website using only html and css.

I will not repeat what people have already contributed. Follow this simple step and thank me later.

Go to. www.codecademy.com and learn the fundamental of php for free or subscribe to their monthly study guide.

Once you grab the basic of php, you will be able to understand more about server side like the form you need and you can as well get a code online that you will be able to tweak to your specifications.
(Getting useable codes from Google is another secret that programmers would never tell you they acquired)

Since you also want to monitor users, you will need to convert your html and css script into a theme, maybe wordpress theme wish is easy if you know php as this will help you to maintain it.

Have I ever mentioned that you should thank me later? Ok just did.
