This is not fair really. The Ag. President basically admitted the failures of the current regime without being direct. He mentioned that if the corruption associated with the whole forex business is stopped, then the situation will get better. It follows that he admits there is forex corruption in the current dispensation.

He also mentioned pipeline vandalism, and has been on a reconciliatory/progressive tour around the Niger Delta the past few weeks. This is a totally different approach from that of Buhari who aggravated the situation by worsening the tensions in the region with his comments and actions. Prof. Osinbajo deserves commendation, not insults.

If this man were to be the president right from the on set...we wouldn't be in recession.. And the dollar would not be as high as this prob around 200-250

He is wiser than buhari...buhari is very irrational in his thinking

ND avengers are one issue also there is structural issue Nigerian economy. Price of oil lower along with fact it's our bread and butter. Also there's weak domestic refining capacity.

Solve ND issue from position of strength. I would suggest reforms but baby steps.

Re: Why Naira Keeps Crashing – Osinbajo by ProfDumbledor(m): 3:13pm On Feb 14, 2017
I'm totally disappointed in you Mr Vice President. Based on this statement, it is glaringly evident that Osinbajo is unfit to pilot the economic team and probably the reason our economy is on a free fall. Now let me educate him. Forex availability is purely policy-driven and has nothing to do with the stupid reasons he adduced. When your monetary policy becomes pro-market, the Forex will take care of itself. Being pro-market means "a social and economic system in which prices are fixed by the law of supply and demand rather than by a government or other body. In its pure form, a market economy is an economy absent of government subsidies, incentives, or regulations". This purely has been the economic direction of our dear country since 1999 until Buhari came in and changed everything.

Why must we depend on Niger Delta oil?
Why can't we depend on groundnut oil?
Because Nigeria reused to use other means to industrialize. Coal for example would power nation but sitting in darknees complaining is 2nd favorite past time.

Incase your don't know the biggest forex drains are oil, manufactured goods, and chemicals.

Quite sad but true. We are yet to realize the implication of the extravagant spending and illegal storing up of our national treasury in form of foreign currencies. The storage is of course for the purpose of an election which could not be won because we already made up our mind to vote them out. For obvious reasons after the election, these perverse thieves (politician, and civil servants) could not spend their loots, hence the reason for storing it up. This is why we are in recession and the government is doing its best to make this people cough out their loots.

Our responsibility as citizens of Nigeria is to support the government in whatever measure it is taking to ensure that these monies are recovered. Trust me, if a politician voluntarily pays back a million naira; be sure that he has over nine million naira he has kept back for himself.

Therefore, government and its agencies have no option than to forcefully (when necessary) recover these loots from these enemies of national progress. It is therefore disheartening to see an average Nigerian (young people especially) support these thieves in the name of ethnic bias or political affiliation. When you have finished spending the N1000 you were paid for protesting in solidarity for a looter, you will come here to lament how you are not able to meet your daily need due to economic recession.

THINK WISELY AND STOP JOINING THIEVES TO PROTEST UNJUST CAUSE!

Let us stand up to defend our national treasure.

For those who didn't understand what he said let me break it down for you , Osinbanjo in a subtle way blamed Buhari for the fall of the Naira because Buhari against common sense started a war with Niger delta militants that he wasn't equipped to win and this led to pipelines bombings + unrest in the region which in turn led to low production outputs in a period of low oil prices ..Osinbanjo thanks for saying the truth

He, however, assured that the federal government was putting measures in place to ensure that the diversion of foreign currencies from the National Treasury through corruption, and the vandalization of pipeline facilities that reduce the amount of Dollars accruable to the federal government is brought to end,

So all this is still happening in this Government.

What he said was "some" of the measures to tackle free fall of naira but more policies need to be put in place to ensure Naira regains it's value. Diversification to other non oil sectors is another part the government needs to work on

The dollar scarcity commenced before the bombings by militant. Letters of Credit were not being honoured by August/September 2015.

The scarcity commenced because of the pegging of the naira at 197 to the $. Soludo was first to condemn this statist and Sanusi has followed up unrelentingly. His hatred of market forces is well known.

Also the FG is not the only source of dollars.

In 2013, the country received $20b in foriegn investment,$21b in remittances and $10b from non-oil export proceeds. Last year, only about $6b came in as foriegn investment with complaints about the incomprehensible firex policies. Earnings from non exports had collapsed to $4b by 2015. Nobody will export and accept to change his dollars at official rates

Re: Why Naira Keeps Crashing – Osinbajo by musicwriter(m): 3:39pm On Feb 14, 2017
With due respect, Mr. Osinbajo, that's not entirely true.

Former President Y'ardua had an understanding with Niger delta militants and was able to stop them bombing oil installations. Result was that more oil was sold and more dollar made. GEJ saw the benefits and continued the amnesty program or whatever.

Now, a new president came in from nowhere and destroyed achievements of the past administration bringing down oil sales. Talk of someone shooting himself on the foot!!.

Even if oil sells for $200 a barrel today, the idiotic policies of the current administration would mean less dollar would be made. If you want to sell more oil, you must make peace with Niger deltans. Period!!.

On corruption, I can give you that, but you said you're fighting this corruption and have recovered Trillions of dollars and Naira. If you don't put those dollar to use, nothing would change.

However, I don't believe this as the crux of our problem, but the fact we import almost everything we use. Because we don't manufacture, because we import almost everything we need is the real reason we need dollars in the first place.
