Tone, is just like changing your complexion from the natural one to something you prefer. I.e, something better. To my own understanding you can't make your skin darker and say you are tonning. If you have a natural fair skin, it can only go dark when the hungry hand of poverty or calamity grab you.
On the other hand dark skinned people tone their skin to chocolate brown or even a very fair complexion.
My idea of skin tonning is becoming lighter than your natural complexion through the use of toner (cream).

Skin toning is not the same as bleaching. It doesn't lighten the skin. It evens it, making it 1 complexion.

To me, skin toning is a subtle way of bleaching ur skin.

Nope.y'all wrong.toning is the use of special creams to make ur skin colour more attractive,brighter or hw ya like 'em.in other words,it improves yr complexion.but dat aint bleaching thou. #my opinion

Well said. It simply means removing the blemishes to reveal only a neutral "original" skin colour OR what your complexion is suppose to be, say you were not exposed to the sun....No blemishes..... No pimples and all

There's a very big gab between sun tone (bath) and cream tone.

No it's not. It's just that most bleaching creams hide behind the name 'toning'. If you tone your skin you even it out. If you have dark spots from pimples obviously the dark spot is not you real complexion, so it makes ONLY the dark spots lighter, by renewing the skin. It's similar to exfoilating, just removing the dead skin cells. It makes your skin have 1 complexion. A toning skin is not supposed to make you even a shade lighter. A dark skinned girl should be able to tone her skin without getting lighter

U're right.. there are sum products that pipo used to tone their skin that contain sum bleaching chemicals or lemme say dangerous chemicals e.g CAROTONE TURA GEL CRUSADER FASHION FAIR and MOVATE just to mention few.. These products contain some chemicals dat are dangerous, they tends to remove d 1st epidermis of d outer layers of d skin nd d 2nd nd 3rd epidermis of d skin which is d finest skin.. Research shows dat chemical like hydroquinone, mercury and steroids causes cancer, so by applying these products to ur skin, u're exposing urself to cancer

Always check ur creams nd make sure those dangerous chemicals dat i have mentioned are nt included in d ingredient...

Skin toning is Lightening of the skin(mild) Toning, also helps to even out uneven skin colouration.

Darkening of the skin on the other hand is called TANNING.
