To those who hardly pay attention to details, the article says that the progress recorded started in fourth quarter of 2016. That means from October 1st to the end of December 2016.

Buhari means well, but he doesn't have the physical and mental capacities to lead Nigeia at this trying moment.

I read some comments and am simply astounded by the level of intellectual simplicity from a lot of our youths. We must take time to read, analyze and ponder before making utterances and not simply commenting based on blind loyalty or mere emotions. While our foreign earnings may have leaped in Q4, the fact remains that this can be attributed solely to increase in the prices of crude oil and relative stability in the Niger delta thereby increasing production. What we must not fail to realize though is that compared to our trade balances of the last 3 years, we are steering away from the so called diversification agenda of our economy. What this means is that another crash in the price of crude oil or bombing of pipelines would send sockwaves round the economy and could potentially bring it to its knees, again! The import substitution Agenda doesn't appear to be working either, or at least is very slow. Smh... Let's keep watching anyways...

Sometimes one cant really place his hands on what the problem really is; whether it's just educated illiteracy or whether it's just a case of people rushing to drop comments without reading or rationalising first.

Please use your brains. It is not easy but try. Osinbajo has been running Nigerias economy since. Buhari presidency is Osinbajo acting Presidency. The trade balance figures means that we have started importing less than we are exporting. That is happening because dollar is expensive.
This is a big vindication of Buhari's economic policy the same policy that Osinbajo chairs the economic team for.

Non-oil exports should have grown from the $10b in 2014 to about $15b now. Unfortunately, wit that policy, non-oil exports instead suffered a reversal.

As long as the naira is not allowed to float, the economy will remain in a rotten shape

It is a surprise how support of a former ineffective stealing government can block and render the thinking faculty of Nigerians to functionless mushroom.

The write up says we have positive net trade balance and you can only see wicked rule of Buhari in that? So you would rather we continue the trend of negative net trade balance that brought nation to this state of comatose under the previous administration.

Maybe the subject is too econo scientifical for you to understand. It simply means we are selling more than we are buying - that is called savings. If we continue the trend of buying more that selling as we were doing in the past, we will get deeper into the mess we are in now. Do you understand? Comprenez vous? No comprende?

And, talking about 2019, it is the impatience of people like you that is heating up the polity of this nation and holding the country back. The nation voted for a government for 4 years, less than 2 years into the 4 year term you are expecting magic. You simply don't understand that to correct the mess we are in will take more than 4 years. All you need to now is to watch the indices and see if it is trending in the right direction. When the trend is given to you, you ignore the statistics and you are quoting irrelevant bible verses.

Go and check this for a fact, it took Obama almost 8 years to revive the economy of US from the impact of 1996 Depression. During that period many Americans lost there jobs, lost their homes and became destitudes in their homeland. Once they saw the indices under Obama were trending in the right directions, they persevered and continue to support the government programs (though it was hurting them then). Today they are back to what America used to be.

Nigerians are totally opposite of these people, we are always looking for immediate gratifications. That is why many fall Ponzi schemes (recent MMM, Nospetco and Umana-Umana in the past) and many are involved in so many shady deals and all ritualistic misadventures. That is why many will support thieves who are stealing their future and future of their children blind because of peanuts these politicians will dole out to them. The implications of these is skewed distribution of our commowealth, that is why majority are in this abject state of penury while a few stacked up millions if not billions of dollars in their account. You can imagine one person hiding about $9.7m in ramshackle in Kaduna, just imagine how many mouths that kind of money will feed if properly invested for the common good. That is just one tiny tip of the iceberg.

Think of these facts and decide your way forward.
