Among the 3 states only Anambra has a commercial quantity of oil and should be declared oil producing state immediately with all it's benefits. Anambra owned Orient petroleum has been drilling and developing it's oil wells for the past 3yrs. The 2 others state has a marginal un-commercial quantity. Investors do not waste their resources in exploring un-commercial deposits.

Having a few gallons of crude oil under your soil does not make you "Oil Producing State"..
Start exporting first.

Visit the oil fields in the oil producing states like Delta,Rivers,Bayelsa,where oil is flowing like water producing millions of barrels daily,then you will fully understand why they are tagged thus.These states produces oil in commercial quantity.The oil in Anambra/Kogi cannot even sustain them,this is sheer politicking

Well the oil is too minimal to go round and dividing it among the 3 States won't make much impact.

FYI: Apart from the fact that Anambra people and it's government are the major investors in oil and gas development in the area, the oil wells 915 and 916 are over 100% domiciled in Anambra whic gives the state ownership of the resources. Only 917 is in contention.

Anambra oil is the largest in the SE as it stretches from Otuocha/Aguleri/Umuleri/Anam to Ogbaru/Odekpe/Atani boundary with Rivers state.

Correct.

You become "oil producing" after exploration and actuall successful production of the crude in commercial quantity.

You are not considered oil producing at exploration stage when those fields aren't even Oil Mining Leases for now but on Oil Prospecting Licenses. They have the potential to produce but are not currently producing a single barrel (yet) to the best of my knowledge.

If these States prospect,explore and produce, then why not? Give them full oil producing state status and derivation from the proceeds of those fields should go to the states.

Also, pls its high time they separate bulk oil producers like Delta and Rivers from marginal producers like Edo and Lagos.

There is a criteria to be eligible to access the 13% derivation and it is not about being "bulk oil producers"

The Oil exploration and production cycle is not limited to putting Oil rig in a place and then knocking the govts door to ask for 13%. Pls avail your self with how the Oil and Gas business is done in Nigeria
