This formation does not use wing fowards it uses wing backs.
The central midfielders were pushing too high in the first half eating up space meant for the attacking midfielders, whjch resulted in them being forced wide, this has been remedied in the second half.

There is a reason why it is called 3-4-3 and not 3-6-1, meaning the formation uses three forwards, two at the wings and one centre forward; just like Madrid and Barca. 3-4-3 formation does not make use of attacking midfielders.

Of course i know they are called wing backs, and in they modern game they are not played alongside wing fowards as wing fowards tend to hug the touchline.
Hazars and Willian dont operate as wing forwards because they come into the midfield to pick their balls as well as press when their teams loose possesion.
Wing forwards dont do that the stay out wide pinning the full backs down with the expectation to cross or cut and shoot when the receive the ball out wide.

In the first half our outside forwards where wide which was wrong for the formation. In the second half they stuck closer which was the right thing to do.

Football does not work like that. There are so many intangibles such as the fact that every single Rostov player probably raised his game like three times
above his usual level simply because playing against man Utd is a dream come true.

Also, these guys just played 1 man down for 50+ minutes versus the best team in the premier league. How great were you expecting them to be barely three days later?
