sarrki:So this is what u can come up with after all the obvious facts stated by Sanusi in which all the past n present administrations are guilty of. Mehn! Nigeria no get future with people like u who are ready to politicize everything. I have read the the story on the vanguard newspaper and the king was very neutral in his analysis. Bro, if people like you continue like this then nigeria is doomed. |

Lol. Savage from SLS. Investmemt which has no bearing on growth of real sector of the economy is pointless, politicians continue to let things play out this way because they want a short term project you can credit them for. You see, even foreign direct investment SLS claim would help is also pointless, it has to be investments in homegrown technology.Which begs the question: Do we have the manpower to catalyse such growth? The answer is no. So, we need to set long-term goals of manpower development, there's a working template we could follow, the Singapore or Taiwan story comes to mind. Bridges, light rails and roads are depreciating assets and their contribution to real economy are minimal, good for buy and sell economy or artisan economy, and to be the giant of Africa, we need a little more than that. Investment in people ( especially people in science and tech) on the other hand, will create values that can only appreciate over time because one techie can teach his skill sets to 100 people over his lifetime, and the cycle goes on. It is however an investment route with no immediate visible gains, and knowing how impatient Nigerians could be, it is understandable why no government is bold enough to go this route. See the resources below if you're interested in this subject. 1)The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew 2) Resources from www.profogbimi.com Edit: After giving this much tought, I'd say the challenges transcends impatience of Nigerians. Lender banks and countries or the Bretton Woods system indirectly dictates our economic policies because they wouldnt accept to grant us loans if it isn't for capital investments that would require their engineers and materials. |

SIRTee15:Nowhere in my post did I say we should abandon railway projects for road projects. I said we shld embark on projects that are economically viable. Why not link Aba with Lagos by train or by good roads? Of what importance is Abuja economically except that it is the capital. The roads here in abuja are more than sufficient for its population. We shld focus on linking all our commercial hubs together with good means of transportation. |

everyone thinks they can run the country better until they get there & begin to do the same things they condemned in others. SLS has raised valid points, but Nigeria presently does not have the technology to advance strategically & independently hence our dependence on more developed nations. as such, the short-medium term strategy would be still depend on other nations with advanced technology while ensuring there is a proper transfer & localisation of the technology within 5-20 years. furthermore, government should stop wholesale training of Nigerian scholars abroad for every tom, dick & harry discipline but should concentrate on scholars going for technologically advanced courses with practical applications in Nigeria.... |

“China will lend you $1.8bn to build light rail. This light rail will be done by the rail workers from China. The trains will come from China. The engines will come from China. The labour comes from China. The driver is Chinese. “At the end of the day, what do you benefit from it? Your citizen will ride on a train and when you ride on a train, in northern Nigeria, in a state like Kano or Katsina, where are you going to? You are not going to an industrial estate to work. You are not going to school? You are not going to the farm. You borrow money from China to invest in trains so that your citizens can ride on them and go for weddings and naming ceremonies He finished saying everything here |

What other solutions fo u want him to proffer ?Let me enlighten u on his points: Dont borrow from china. Lets change our infrastructure models by building rails that lead to economic poles. Let there be a transfer of technology from chinese to nigerians by forcing the chinese to use naija manpower and rail pilots. We should stop unsustainable borrowings and chanel such to the right sectors of economy. Governors should stop their jamborees to china as itd of no consequenceas they sign stupid mou Jay542: |
