Bro, I think you got my point. Our differences now is whether 30 million naira can go as a gift. The law is explicit on this ....you cannot give a judge presiding over your case money or gift . the ICPC act aptly regard any such gratification as corruption and its now left for the parties involve to proof it otherwise. So #500,000 or #30,000,000 goes as corruption. You cannot do it selectively.

A typographical error. Justice Adeniyi Ademola is or was a Judge of the Federal High court, Abuja Division prior to his being docked on corruption charges. Right thinking members of the public still perceive him as very corrupt despite the temporary respite granted him by a fellow Judge of FHC.

So if I went to the wedding of my friend who is a judge I should not give a gift simply because he is presiding over a case that I am defending? No, it makes no sense. There should be something like a subtle way of administering wise judgement and one way to determine that is to reason if the lawyer delivering the gift is capable of affording said money and if the money in question is substantial enough to subvert justice.

It beggars belief that anyone will tender $1200 as a bribe to counter the claim that someone else offered $77k to influence a judgment. And when we place this along with the fact that the "wedding gift" was given 2 months to the wedding- I mean, which fully-functional judgement dismisses this as a lack of evidence.

What evidence was presented? The prosecutors failed to proof any if it case against ademola. The prosecution case was filled with "hear say", innuendos, outright double speak and conjectures.

They failed to connect the sums being bandied around with ademola or any acts of corruption! Remember the law says HE WHO ALLEGES MUST PROOF. It was the duty of the prosecution to proof it allegations against Ademola which in this case is lacking.

Corruption cases are not won on the pages of newspapers or through breaking down doors at wee hours! You have to go to court and proof your case. The burden of proof in criminal cases are high and it behoves on the government to do proper investigation, prepare it witnesses and tender evidence before the court.

Its a shame that Ademola was not even allowed to enter a defence in this case because the government failed to even establish that a crime was even committed by him.

In the end, the tax payers might have to pay for government incompetence because Ademola might sue the government for malicious prosecution and defamation and might end up with a hefty sum as compensation!

Remember Justice ademola grand father was ounce a chief justice of Nigeria, his father was also a justice of the appeal court.
Ademola tendered evidence in court to show that the funds in his accounts was his share of the proceeds of the sale of thier family estates both in Nigeria and abroad.
Does the law of Nigeria forbids a judge from collecting inheritance from his family assets? We don't know whether that is true or not but it was a duty that should have been done by the investigation authorities before going to court.
The government rushing to CCT to charge ademola for failure to declare assets points likely that the facts presented by ademola might be true!
So in all honesty , this government have failed in its so called war on corruption because it looks like both the investigative and prosecution authorities are grossly incompetent.

This case was lost purely because of poor investigation and FG & EFCC should be held accountable. Media trial is very different from judicial trial, seems FG relishes in media trial while failing in her responsibility to do a detailed investigation that will allow them get a successful trial.
How do you jail somebody just because he got a "gift" and couldn't link the gift to a crime? It's not for the judge to help FG/EFCC, they must prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. There are more cases to be lost ahead if this lazy investigation approach continues

Especially when there is the possibility of visiting the Judge in more condusive time, issue search warrant and search the home, but because Buhari being an indesciple man, highly lawless man who desregards court judgement and orders, who feels he can do and undo, afterall I am a Fulani man and to make thing worse he is an Islamist, so who can challenge me?
