We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Education in Emergency Officer

Location: Maiduguri
Department: Program
Reports to: Field Coordinator with Technical line to Education and Livelihood Specialist
Duration: 6 Months

Purpose
Supports the coordination of the pilot mobile Education in Emergency (EIE) project, document lessons learnt, support assessments and monitoring and evaluation of the Education in Emergencies components of Plan International's emergency response.
The post holder will also contribute towards the capacity building of Plan Internationals implementing partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate the implementation of mobile EiE project
Support the EIE Specialist in designing the plan for the mobile units
With support from Community Engagement Officer mobilize and sensitize community on the new project
Support in documenting lessons learnt and best practices of the pilot project
With support from M&E team design a Monitoring plan and simple data collection tools to ensure monitoring and data collection of key project indicators.
Support assessment of Education sector in North East
Review, assess and update the education situation in areas affected by emergency
Highlight education issues requiring a response – both immediate (less than 2 months) and medium term and make recommendations on specific PLAN actions required. Ensure core commitments to children are taken into consideration.
Ensure key data from assessments could be used as a baseline for program evaluation. If additional baseline data is required to evaluate children’s learning outcomes, then work with appropriate colleagues to collect this additional information.
In collaboration with national and international Education actors, map current institutional response capacities – including conducting an education specific 3Ws.
Support in designing appropriate education interventions based on the outcomes of assessments and the context. Inclusion of quality issues in education and learning outcomes is really important.
Ensure that issues of early childhood, gender, protection, DRR, and conflict sensitivity are factored into the program design.
Ensure Plan international guidelines, UN education cluster standards and INEE Minimum Standards, are considered and any departures documented.
Provide regular updates to Education and Livelihoods Specialist, Humanitarian Program Manager, humanitarian unit and the rest of the CO on progress, priorities and constraints verbally and in writing on an agreed frequency.
Represent Plan International to clusters, governmental and non-governmental groups as needed and agreed with the Team Leader.
Support the implementation of, and represent Plan International in, emergency education coordination mechanisms including any relevant cluster.
Brief updates and reports on sectoral activities/strategies to donors and other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
University degree or equivalent in Education, Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields
Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience Education in Emergencies
Experience working in emergency settings
Good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and establishedn international child protection standards (especially UNCRC)
Experience with participatory approaches to education, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or other related area.
Experience working with IDPs, refugees and other vulnerable populations (ideal)
Experience in mobile EiE units desirable but not essential
Previous experience directly providing services to children at risk and victims of abuse, exploitation and violence
Physical Environment and Demands:
Travel extensively to lead and supervise programme activities
Level of Contact with Children:
High contact- the job responsibilities of this position require the post holder to have frequeny contact with children. It is expected that children shall be protected at all times.

U.S. Mission Nigeria is pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2018 Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program. This program will provide Nigerian teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge of the United States. The application deadline is April 28, 2017.

The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program consists of a six-week non-degree, non-credit customized academic program including seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, teaching strategies and instructional technology. Participants will also participate in a practicum in a U.S. secondary school near their host university to work closely with U.S. teachers and teach and present to U.S. students. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program. The international participants will travel to the United States in two 80-person cohorts in spring (January – March) or fall (September – November) 2018.

Upon returning home, Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA program) alumni are eligible to apply for small grants for essential teaching materials, follow-on training for other teachers, collaborative projects between schools in their home country and the United States, and other activities that build on their exchange experience in the United States.

Teaching disciplines for the TEA Program are:

English or English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
Social Studies (civics, history, geography, etc.)
Mathematics
Science
Special Education teachers in the disciplines listed above
Tentative Program dates in the U.S.

Cohort I: January – March 2018 (Spring)
Cohort II: September – November 2018 (Fall)
Selection Timeline

April 28, 2017: Deadline of Online Application
May 2017: Interviews for shortlisted candidates
May 20, 2017: TOEFL test
June – August 2017: The Embassy with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and implementing partner International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) make final selections.
September 2017: Finalists are notified and confirm acceptance of award, submitting all required documentation.
For Cohort I:

November 2017: Visa interviews and attend Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO)
January 2018: Fellows arrive in the United States

Institutional Support and Reference Form (ISRF)

The “characteristics” section must be completed by the applicant’s supervisor (i.e., school principal). A family member may not complete the reference form.
The “recommendation letter” section must also be completed by the applicant’s supervisor.
The ISRF must be signed by the school director. This will confirm that the school supports your participation in this program.
The ISRF is required for application online. There is a section within the online application where you are prompted to print the form. You then need to upload the completed form and reference to the same section of the application for it to be considered “complete.” The Online Application System will not let you submit your application without uploading the ISRF.

Qualifications:

Applicants must:

Be current secondary school-level, full-time teachers in a school that serves a primarily local (not expatriate) population;
Have five or more years of classroom experience in TEA teaching disciplines: English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, or Special Education;
Be citizens of and residents in Nigeria;
Have earned a bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
Obtain a minimum score of 450 on paper based TOEFL or equivalent English language examination. *Please note that candidates do not need to take the test before applying. If selected after an interview, candidates will be required to take the TOEFL test, with support from the U.S. Embassy;
Demonstrate a commitment to continue teaching after completion of the program; and
Submit a complete application.
* A limited number of participants with TOEFL scores between 425 and 450, or equivalent, will be accepted for the program into a special cohort with additional English language training included in the professional development program. Please note that this is a program for practicing teachers of Nigerian students in public schools. Ministry of Education officials, full-time principals or educational administrators, full-time teacher trainers, university faculty, private tutors, and teachers from schools primarily serving expatriates are not eligible.

The Federal Government of Nigeria will tomorrow declare open the site www.jobsforall.ng open for all unemployed Nigerians to log in their details. This is an avenue to collate data's of unemployed Nigerians so as to link them up with government and private sectors that may need their services. Pass the info on, you may be helping someone get his desired job.
