I thought doctors encourage EBF for 6 months it turn around dat my SIL who's a doctor and who delivered my wife of our baby boy has been encouraging her to add baby formular from 3 months. They encourage other ppl to do EBF for 6 months but do otherwise. This is causing problem between I and my wife as my baby boy will be 4 months by month end and shes hell bent on adding formular and insists it must be sma gold else she will leave d baby crying. I hate to c my baby cry. Money no too dey dats y im asking for d good but cheap baby formular. I also want to know price of the sma gold cos I heard its expensive. This our first baby. He looks very healthy, weighs 9kg at 3 months on jus breastmilk alone. I do not see d need adding formular cos my wife doesn't work but if worst comes to worst and she abandons the baby crying then I have to look for alternative affordable formular u mothers can suggest to me.

The sad part is that the removal will be a mini operation, my dear afraid catch me when I heard it. I haven't done it sha since its not urgent.

Hmmmmm this is a tough one.
Anyway, when I started giving my son formula at 2 weeks, I got sma gold. It was 3,330 Naira but last time I checked it had gone up to 3500. I eventually switched to lactogen (it's made by nestle) that one was about 2200. My son didn't like it much so I switched to nan 1 (also made by nestle) it was 2100 as at January o. But now we buy it for 2400 sometimes we get lucky and see it for 2300.

I respect your wife's opinion on adding formula, maybe exclusive is strenuous for her, but leaving baby crying if formula is not available isn't a good response coming from a mother. Please have a talk with your wife on this.

If breast milk isn't sufficient, then by all means add formula, but if it is sufficient and reason she wants formula is because she is pressurized to do so, then I see no sense in it.

I think 3months it's a bit early to teeth. ORS is a solution that of salt, water and sugar given to purging babies to reintroduce electrolytes that have been lost via loose and frequent stooling. The solution is is given immediately after each stool while you observe your diet and hygiene. If purging continues after 24 hours pls go to a hospital. My son has erupted 2 teeth at 6 months and he didn't purge even though we didn't take the rota vaccine.

My lo had these episodes too, infact, he added catarrh and cough join with low grade fever. There was also mucous in his poo, so we took him to see a pead who prescribed zinc tablet (zinc is also in ORS)/ paracetamol for fever. I think its for a phase.

Always wipe his palms with clean water from time to time, avoid touching his palms too, and wipe if touched. Maintain a good hygiene around him too and you should be fine. I didn't use the ORS so I can't really comment on that. Also doc said they don't prescribe teething medications except fever is getting high.

I agree with you. Sma is between 3200 to 3500, Nan is 2400 plus, however cowbell Tina and my boy eldorin is around 1200- 1500 and they are equally good.

You need to sit your wife down and ask her why she is insisting on formula! If she is stressed or feel breast milk is no longer sufficient for her child please by all means get her the formula. I a not comfortable with her saying g she will leave the baby to cry if formula is not provided that statement to me is a red flag that something is going on with her emotionally​ and needs to be addressed asap.

Please get her the formula I'm certain your Sil must have seen something wrong with her sister to suggest such.

Ebf is NOT easy! And I applaud your wife for doing the little she has done already. People need to understand that exclusive breast feeding is NOT a must and women shouldn't be forced to do it to avoid emotional and physical breakdown, our bodies are different and just because lady A did it doesn't meant lady B must also do same or be shamed for not towing that line.

I also swore that I must do ebf! But circumstances had other plans for us and I couldn't​.

maybe she wants to add formula because it can be very tiring to put baby to breast constantly. The reason I introduced formula was because my milk supply wasn't enough for my baby. Buy that doesn't seem to be the case for her giving the weight of her baby. Talk to her about expressing breast milk with a breast pump so that others can get to feed the baby too and she can get some rest. Let her know that breast milk is better than formula. Me I wish I could do exclusive honestly. As at Saturday, my husband said sma is 6000+ . NAN is 2200

ors is oral rehydration solution. It is sold in pharmacies in sachets. If u want to make yourself, boil 1 litre of water. (2 big mineral bottles). Let the water cool after boiling.
Add half level teaspoon of cooking salt to the water. Add 8 level teaspoons of sugar to the water.
Each preparation should be finished within 24 hours
