EgunMogaji: I asked you a straight-forward question because you and I live in a developed nation. If you don`t want to answer it, I`m sure everybody would have to make up his/her own mind. I always hate it when those that live in a glass house throw stones. 95% of Africans that come to the West to look for jobs would break the law at one point in time or the other. If you have never left Nigeria before while using the type of language you used in your first post I would have ignored it, but the fact that you are condemning someone that overstayed, calling him a criminal crossed a line As to the guy that claimed to have witnessed something like this on Air France, listen! When you bought a ticket to fly to any destination, you did not tell the airlines that you are looking for a mental torture. On board, should you see a fellow Nigerian being chained to the seats, you have every right to tell them that the treatment you are witnessing is giving you mental stress and you would be ready to take them to court for it; you shouldn`t be on a flight that is engaging in physical terrorism and I`m sure they would get the message, if they didn`t just record it on your mobile and look for a competent lawyer when you are back from Nigeria to take up your case for you, I was on a flight from Paris to London in 2003 when a Danish guy drew my attention to the fact that he had witnessed a couple of situations in which Nigerians are treated badly for no reason at international airports. So we need to develop our own coping mechanism in the absence of political leadership. If Prof Wole Soyinka could complain about this type of treatment, what else are we waiting for? You remember America`s reaction once Abike Dabiri warned Nigerians against going to the States unless it`s absolutely necessary? Well, America got the message immediately 2 Likes 1 Share |

We dont have the facts of this guy's case so we cant be totally speculative. Could it be more than immigration offence? Possibly If i am on that flight, I will NEVER NEVER behave like those Nigerians NEVER. They dont even know the gravity of what they were doing They are NOT in Ikeja, they are likely to be committing offence in Schipol Airport. The best i could have done is to ask the guy some question(at least in pidgin english!) to see if he need a 'PROPER' help |

ATERI: Here is my unmodified post: EgunMogaji: Please point out where I "condemn an overstayer". Even if I did, it's my prerogative and I don't have to kowtow to you. It is my opinion that the actor is a criminal and hence why he was in chains. Even if all he did was commit an immigration offense, then that is still an offense. We don't have to agree, you are you and I am me. Different backgrounds and thought process. I'm not the only one that postured the opinion of the actor being a probable criminal. Why focus on me? His being detained in chains is a simple matter of logistics. Safety first. ---------------- "Criminal violations of the INA, on the other hand, include felonies and misdemeanors and are prosecuted in federal district courts. These types of violations include the bringing in and harboring of certain undocumented aliens, the illegal entry of aliens, and the reentry of aliens previously excluded or deported." http://immigration.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=000781 1 Like |

buchibrand: Well, I initially considered not replying you. But I thought I might let you know that I mostly quoted those who quote me. You imply that my comments are insensible but at least you will agree that I have the right to a fair hearing. Just as I agree that you should say what you think. If you dispute my take on the issue, I will give you a reply. buchibrand: I reply arguments not because I want to prove that I am wisest. I don't comment very much. I just read and pass. But I am angry. Really, really angry at the hypocritical comments I have read on this thread. buchibrand: You all have recourse to sanctity of human lives only when you leave the shores of Nigeria. Why not maintain same back home. Same set of people will land at Murtala Moh'd airport and laugh about the noisy escalator. Where is the outrage when you are back home? I am not an advocate of violation of human rights. But my question remains. Where is your outrage when same happen here? Why do you respect force more than civility? I bet you, those guys cannot try that rubbish if it were in Turkey, or anywhere in the Arab world. Quote me on that. Because the dutch are being civil you take them as soft target to show that you are shocked! shocked about violation of human rights!!! Suddenly you care so much about human rights. The other day 2face was threatened into abandoning a peaceful demonstration which he organized. Where is your outrage? And how do you appreciate the gains of civilization and join the 21st century by engaging in such uncivil behaviour as those have done? You claim the other set of people are violating human rights. But immediately you turn around and engage in uncivil behaviour. I take it that you're throwing stones while you live in a house of glass buchibrand:Even if you throw insults my brother I won't mind so you don't need to be sorry. Insults neither add nor take away from who I am. Rather it helps me know who to not engage. And when you think you're speaking the truth you don't care about who feels insulted or not. You just do your thing. Your data, you do whatever you like with it. If its throwing insult? good riddance. Isn't it funny how you laud those guys for being persistent in getting that man off the plane, yet thrash me for being persistent in defending my views? Ask yourself why. 2 Likes |

Jammiiee: If I remember correctly, the Dutch were the first people to camp refugees in a sub-zero temperature in the whole of Western Europe, and somebody is saying they are angels that never hurt anyone. Was it a crime to seek asylum in the late 90s? A fellow Nigerian was being treated badly, yet he sees nothing wrong in it. Nonsense! |

EgunMogaji: " His fellow law-breakers" is the language I didn`t like. I wanted you to confirm that you have never broken the type of laws he has broken. I`m not picking on you, but I figure you are in a better position to know what goes on in the live of a new arrival to the West. The people we are calling law breakers here are the Nigerians that left Nigeria so as to be able to lead a decent life the children of our Generals take for granted. And as for yours sincerely, if I had never been arrested in any country of the world I have been to, them I may not need a tutorial on morality. My reactions to things like this simply based on the fact that, but for fate we could have been each other. |

ATERI: Again, here is what I said: EgunMogaji: Is he not a law breaker? Is he the only Nigerian in that country? What makes him so special that he's the only one in chains on that flight? You continue to try to make this about me. I'm not the criminal in this narrative. 1 Like |

forgiveness: In law enforcement we have something called a "tactical retreat" and "in the interest of peace". In Yoruba we have a saying that goes "agbo to tadi meyin, kosa, olomagbarawa ni". We don't know the end of this episode. Some of the rowdy participants may suddenly find their visa revoked and/or banned from both airline and country. There're surveillance cameras all over that airport. It's better sometimes to eat crow while you plan a proper comeuppance with a side of schredenfrau (sp) 1 Like |

Brownbarbie97: Coincidentally, Asian guy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMTpvzJp4ps Well done for the show of solidarity among Nigerians on the KLM but let’s not keep on creating an aura of helpless over ourselves by continually exaggerating and claiming we’re not respected. Truth is no Black African people are more respected than Nigerians abroad. Such negative self-assessment become self-fulfilling. |

After watching the video and i read some of the comments on fb. One wonders why the guy was chained to the chair. The guy acts violently which is understandable but he knows the law as it concerns immigration. They should given him a seat in the business class cabin. Na because dem no arrest them for obstruction of justice. Let us make demands from our leaders. We voted them there. |

There is a site that publishes weekly reports on deportation. UK wants to deport 90,000 nigerians by the end of the year. Germany its 12,000 and Italy about 20,000 yearly for the next three yrs. Apart from somalians and eritreans who are given asylum/refugee status, and commit far worse crimes than other africans except angolans. |

Prettiepearlz: The right question is how high do you think of your fellow nigerian? What most ppl dont know deportation is usually not forcible enforced. The Netherland, scandinavia, germany france, swiss etc they usually buy you a ticket and ask you to leave within a month. I dont know any nigeria who went to europe on a boot who has left willingly. Who would like to go to his shitty home country broke, esp nigeria. Trust me he did not want ro be deportated willing. Have seen africans tied up like a schizo-manic becoz again who wants to leave. They get free food and housing plus selling drugs raping women is the norm for these niggas. What worse millions of arabs are running from wars. No place for fleeing africans, especially those who do not face persecution eg kenyans or nigerians et.c |

He was about to be deported because he had no documents and he was restrained. Could'nt they have just asked for the restraints to be removed instead of insisting he be deported via another flight? I almost died of laughter at 7mins 51sec. The guy said "for what? for what?. Is it not stupidity? Maybe you don't have documents today does not mean somebody will not have it. What's his offence? they said he don't have documents that's why they are deporting him. We are once like that" |
