In what seems like a perfect birthday gift to a young man, who has been in the forefront of inspiring leadership and building entrepreneurs, co-founder and managing partner of RED Media Group, Chude Jideonwo, has been named a 2017 World Fellow. The Delta State native is one of only 16 people chosen for this prestigious global leadership development program at the Yale University, a private Ivy League institution in the United States.

With his latest achievement, Jideonwo now joins a network of 309 Fellows representing 87 countries of the world.

According to the director of Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program Emma Sky, “The 2017 World Fellows are extraordinary individuals, who share a commitment to open society and a belief that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. They join our network of over 300 World Fellows, working to make our world a better place for all,” she said.

World Fellows is Yale University’s signature global leadership development initiative and a core element of institution’s ongoing commitment to internationalisation. Each year, the University invites a group of exemplary mid-career professionals from a wide range of fields and countries for an intensive four-month period of academic enrichment and leadership training.
“I am honoured and delighted to welcome these leaders and innovators to campus,” said Yale President Peter Salovey. “World Fellows have improved people’s lives, and their contributions have far reaching influence on society. They enrich our learning environment by sharing their expertise and experiences with our students and faculty. They have the opportunity to grow academically and personally as they interact with our community. This program is an example of Yale’s commitment to developing globally engaged leaders.”

The mission of World Fellows is to cultivate and empower a network of globally engaged leaders committed to making the world a better place. The program is part of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, which prepares Yale students for global leadership and service through its master’s program in global affairs, master of advanced study in global affairs and undergraduate major in global affairs.

In 2014, Biola Alabi, former managing director of Mnet Africa was named World Fellow. The project is committed to three main goals: Leadership (to strengthen the knowledge and skills essential for global leadership), Service (to provide opportunity to serve others through sharing knowledge and experience, and collaborating on initiatives, and Network (to grow a global community of people with shared values, connected to each other and to Yale).

Named by Forbes as one of Africa’s 30 best entrepreneurs under 30, Chude Jideonwo is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Red Media Africa (RED), which owns the continent’s largest portfolio of youth media brands. The organisation has successfully managed the campaign communication for two consecutive Nigerian Presidents.

Through Statecraft Inc, RED’s governance communication company, he led on the communication for the Muhammadu Buhari campaign in 2015. The digitally driven movement upset a 16-year monopoly by the previous ruling party, and set off excitement across the continent. RED’s brands include The Future Africa Awards Africa, Y! Africa andYNaija.com, and has consulted for global brands including Microsoft, Google, the British Council and the United States Government.

A lawyer and award-winning journalist, he has a Master’s Degree in Media and Communication from the Pan-African University. He is a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum, a member of the African Leadership Network and sits on the boards of the Oando Foundation and Micosoft

In May 2014, his latest book, Are We The Turning Point Generation? was published by Farafina, and has toured Lagos, Abuja, Jonannesburg, London, Paris and New York. In October of the same year, he was announced winner of the CNBC All Africa Young Business Leader of the Year. In September 2015, Red Media Africa was shortlisted for the African Business of the Year prize alongside Dangote Group and Chandaria Industries.
