Residents of Sapele today took to the streets to stage a protest over lack of light(darkness) and evil activities of BEDC.Despite being warned by the army not to block the roads,the protesters stormed the streets and blocked some of the roads in Sapele.

The problem with power supply in Nigeria predates Jonathan, and is much bigger and complicated than you think.

Honestly, that BEDC is the most useless and worthless of all the discos in this country.

Hehehe.... Sapele..... I did my NYSC at Obule
Schools Sapele. Out of 1 whole year, we saw light less than 2 weeks. Whether BEDC, EEFC ID, or whatever, they are all fraud.

Seriously BEDC is the worst when it comes to distribution companies. You cannot have light for up to 3 straight hours in Benin ( who born you?) except you're the Oba. When you protest, if they were giving you 30 minutes daily before, then they would start flashing it. Stupid GLJ gave Discos to his friends. Now see the result

The painful part is this protest is all in waste because BEDC will never change their stinky wrapper

Power is privatised now. Minister of Darkness only controlls transmission. Generation is now in the hands of GENCOS, distribution in the hands of DISCOS.

You people did not complain when the last admin handed over to GENCOS and DISCOS....and remember they did give you guys time to register your disagreement. Most of us kept quiet.

Hope the army won't shoot them !

Are you saying the minister have no say on the generation of power at all?

Problem with power supply in Nigeria

1.It needs a lot of money to fix....and we mean trillions of naira.(Hence privatisation).

2.We need to at least quadruple our generating capacity to get light 24/7....and that will take a long time.

3.And anyway, the transmission system is in a mess, and needs replacement.

4.Most Nigerians and most govt parastatals do not pay their light bills. Even when prepaid meters are installed...some people go and bypass them.Then there is the issue that we do not even pay enough for light at current billing methods.

5.If you want power 24/7.....metering, people paying bills on time, and fixing transmission might help.

Allow DISCOS to compete in areas that they do not cover. If I live in Lagos, and I find out that Kaduna DISCO is cheaper, why should I not pay Kaduna DISCO bills while living in Lagos?
